Aircraft condition as an image factor

Hi,

I have another question about the aircraft condition. I am not referring to the percentage you get to see on the flight schedule page. My question refers purely to the green bars you get for aircraft condition on the flight detail page, under the tab "flight rating".

I have asked this question before, but did not get an answer. Perhaps in the mean time someone has figured out how it works  :-)

Example one...

One plane does two return flights per day with a maintenance ratio of 365% and two maintenance blocks per day. The image rating shows as 3 green bars.

Another plane does three return flights per day with a maintenance ratio of 106% and only one maintenance block per day. Image rating shows as 4 green bars.

Both planes are less than one year old.

Example two...

Two planes fly exactly the same routes. Both planes are identical and ordered at the same time (age difference is 21 hours). As their flight schedule is identical they both have a maintenance ratio of 454%. But one plane gets an image rating (for aircraft condition) of 2 green bars, while the other aircraft gets 4 green bars.

Can someone explain ?

As far as I know not the maintenance ratio determines the image factor with regard to airplane condition but the airplane condition itself, which is the percentage number left of the maintenance ratio in the fleet overview. Therefore this image factor will slightly change for every flight.

What voeni says. Plus, the value displayed is in fact based on the current condition of the plane. So looking at the exact same flight at different times during the day will yield different results. In the end, the relevant value is determined at take-off.

Hi,

are you sure ?

my second example is about wide bodies that fly to different destinations on different days. On one day they only get 2 hours of maintenance, on another day they get 19 hours of maintenance. One plane gets the same 2 green bars for every flight, whether the plane got 2  hours of maintenance or 19 hours of maintenance. The other plane gets 4 green bars for every flight.

As said, "hours of maintenance" don't matter at this point. The only thing that matters is current condition.

After 19 hours of MX the aircraft condition should most likely be back up at 100%, no? Or what exactly is the “current condition”?

Hi,

I am glad I am not the only one who is a bit confused  :-)

So if I look at the flight details of last sunday's flight, it does not tell me the rating that flight received... it shows me the actual condition of the plane at this very moment. Right ?

That would explain everything.

Thanks,

Jan

I think everything in individual flight number information is dynamically generated. What leads me to believe this is that if you remove flights from flight plan, the leasing cost disappears from flight costing at flight information.

Exactly. These values are not kept anywhere. They need to be generated "live". The "current condition" is just that: Open the aircraft page and look at the "current" condition value displayed there :)

The only time they are "stored" (as aggregates, like the total image value for a particular flight) is when the flight actually takes off.

maybe i have misunderstood or just not read something, but when i look at two different flights (e.g. the routing SFO-YVR-SFO), the outward flight directly prior to the maintenance slot, and the inward flight directly after the maintenance slot, i cannot see any change in the aircraft condition when i look at the two flight ratings.

Hi,

your flight list shows every flight from two days ago up to 3 days ahead. Well, every single flight you look at will show you the same image rating for aircraft condition... it will show you the condition of the plane right now, at this very moment.

I thought that all information on the flight detail page referred to that particular flight. As it works with seats or ticket prices.

Anyway, thanks for clearing that up.

Basically, if I understood correctly, the only time you are seeing an accurate rating for that flight is if the flight has just departed and has not landed yet. Any other time the page will show a fake rating based on the current condition (not maintenance ratio) of the airplane, not the actual rating the flight got or will get.

@ bobb - correct, that's what Martin is saying.
