Another Violation of naming rules

:(

I Googled the name as well and I find absolutely nothing wrong with this name. The naming rules do not state your name has to contain "air" or "airways" or anything similar, and Karnataka Regional can well be considered a name for a transportation company, there are other "XYZ Regional" companies throughout all the gameworlds, so my take would be the name is perfectly good. I have seen food seasoning's brand name as airline, that one is OK. Why Karnataka Regional would not, is beyond me. But then, I am not Marion, I am George.

I think Marion is becoming a bit over-reactive with names recently. But she is new... she does not yet have the "feeling" and "touch" necessary to properly consider some names. Maybe you could message some other team members here in the forums, or see if they are active on your gameworld, and message them on the GW, and kindly ask them what their take is on that name, maybe they can have a little chat internally to help you out.

P.S. I am just wondering why Marion does not reply on the forums. SK did interact with users on the forums, and replied to their concerns, comments, and complaints. I am wondering why Marion does not? Since February when she joined AS support, she only has 7 posts, none of them publicly visible, so I guess they are within the Team board only. It would really make a difference if she tried to explain her position on these issues, and also actually proactively tried to help these players out. SK actually did provide explanation and reasoning to certain name concerns (and I did have my naming conversations with SK in the past myself), but he was more-or-less reasonable and somewhat flexible, but most important of all, he actually communicated and explained clearly what was wrong.

As a side note: I just love (NOT!) the copy & past responses you frequently get from support at many companies, and which seems to be the case Jan received himself. Like ... you ask by email/web form about A and they C&P reply to you talking about B. These so-called template responses or copy&paste responses as they are known, are greatly hated by the customers, and highly frowned upon by professional consultants and competent coaches of customer service relations.

As entrepreneur and business major myself, one of the basic things I know that when dealing with customers, a personalized response where the CSR takes time to read the problem and find a solution to unique customer's problem which is relevant to the given case and situation on hand, can go a very long way in assuring that customer's loyalty & satisfaction, and even turn an upset customer into being company fan and avid user/admirer.

However, herein seems to be popping up this nagging impression of dangerous sliding towards this copy & paste / template reply environment. It should be a warning sign to maybe try to re-think the "systems" and methodology used in the customer relations, and make appropriate adjustments and reforms in relevant processes if, and where, necessary.

Please remember, that in customer dissatisfaction cases, only a portion of dissatisfied and/or frustrated customers expresses their frustration of inability to find a reasonably acceptable resolution to their cases and problems, through company's official public channels, such as Facebook, and in this case, Forums. The proportion of customers that just leaves without any further communication with the service provider is proven to be much higher than the number of those that take time to give it a final shot (attempt) and try to resolve their issue publicly, after having been unable to previously resolve the matter through private channels with the provider (support line, email, chat, correspondence, etc.)

I also do not see anything in the name that could be considered rule breaking.

I bet if it named Karnatakan Regional, it would not trigger the naming violation.

Karnataka is a state in India, it could be they are trying to avoid using name of state/city/country.

Like BMI Regional logically has BMI as parent company, if they approve Karnataka Regional, they should also approve Karnataka which they can't.

I also bet if it named Air Karnataka Regional, it wont be a problem.

Just a perspective, I could be wrong.

Karnataka is a state in India, it could be they are trying to avoid using name of state/city/country.

Sorry but that makes no sense. Most airlines in this game - in fact the huge majority - have the name of a city, region or country as part of their name, And to say that adding "Air" would make it fine is just ridiculous.

It does seem some members of staff are getting too oversensitive when it comes to names.

And to say that adding "Air" would make it fine is just ridiculous.

Hard to believe, but could be true. The 'air' should solve everything and make the name an airline. lol.

And that is the thing Marion should come out publicly and state yes adding Air will make a difference, or adding -an,  or say no it will not make a difference, etc ...

It shoudl ahve bene first thing done in the email the OP received.

One of my airlines Amazonica was initially registered as Amazonia, SK objected, was changed to Amazonica, was still not good enough but SK himself said should add Linhas Aereas, and at the end , that one was fine. But SK at least was somewhat helpful with suggestions on how to modify the actual name to make it acceptable, which Marion does not seem to be (yet).

And yet it's ridiculous. Why should everyone be obliged to have Air or Aero or Airlines or Airways or something like it in the name? There are lots of real life airlines that have nothing of the sort.

Seriously, if it's not a trademark name (or similar enough), and it's not an offensive term, then it should be allowed. Anything else in the naming rules is simply absurd.

All true in theory and for high-yielding businesses. But utterly unrealistic in case of AirlineSim. We have a central queue in which new names, logos etc show up which our supporters need to screen. Several hundred of these arrive every day. At the same time, playing AS costs you about EUR 3.60 a month. That makes enough revenue for me to partially live off of the project and to pay for a bit of customer support. Without projects from other clients and voluntary support in various areas (IT support, data research) by the community, AirlineSim would be impossible to do in the first place.

This project is a labour of love of several people that sacrifice a lot to keep it going. Getting to hear theoretical business-school mumbo-jumbo on how to run things around here with the minimal resources we got is...well...not great.

Hi,

if some player with too much free time complained about this name, he gives extra work to an administrator who might be doing other stuff.

If a moderator saw that name and decided to take action... well... perhaps companies with limited resources should focus on bigger problems than the airline name "Karnataka Regional"  ;-)

Just my two cents  ;-)

Point taken. Sometimes things slip, sometimes matters are simply subjective. As with everything else in user support, we're also revising the naming rules right now, trying to make them more easy to follow for both players and staff. But this has been a problematic issues at AS for as long as the project exists. It's not going away over night :)

From a business point of view, we obviously shouldn't care at all. Reject clear violations of copyright and let everything else pass. But we've decided a long time ago that we and the community want more than this and that names of airlines should be as realistic as possible to stay in tune with the idea behind the game as a whole. And that obviously brings us into a massive grey area that's essentially about taste and personal preference. Which, as we all know, you can debate about until you die without ever coming close to any conclusion ;)

Agree 100%!

I would expect, that as Team member you will first answer my original question (what is wrong with Karnataka Regional) and after that you will react to other contributors.

This is called Good Manners at all forums worldwide....

IMO, your name is fine and it was probably a mistake on the side of the moderator to send a violation message.

Hi Jan, I was very surprised when I saw your thread because your name is perfectly fine.

It was a message sent by mistake so I apologize for the inconvenience this had caused.

I replied on your ticket as well.

We will overhaul the naming rules right away to clear confusion on both sides.

Hallo,

my English is far from perfect, so I dont know exactly, what you mean. It seems you attack to me, because I have courage disagree with situation, that happend to me and which might happen to almost everybody with such common company name as Karnataka Regional.

Jan Smerf

Hi Jan,

I did not attack you. My first sentence referred to players who click on the <Report this airline> button and make a complaint to the AS staff about your airline.

You only started playing and you created a name for your airline. If there is a problem the next day, it is either because another player (with too much time) complained about your name or because a staff member thought the name was not good.

As for my airline name. I had to change it 3 times. The first time it may have been (staff member) Tim who did not like the name, but the other two times happened a long time later, so I guess it was another player who decided I should change my name. It doesn't bother me a lot. I don't think RedStar Havacilik (a Turkish flying ambulance service) would have sued AS or me because my airline was called Red Star Airlines, but I did not make a fuzz and changed it into Red Sun Airlines. A name is just a name  ;-)

So sure, my name is not better than yours.

Cheers,

Jan

Apparently it's a simple mistake. People here has become too sensitive over small issue lately. So much for the 'mumbo-jumbo' BS things lol.  :D

I agree that it’s a project of love. And for that also myself am willing to donate my time to help you guys review the names on an ongoing basis. Where do I sign up?

Nice try, oh how I can foresee this thing coming when threads like these escalate. I bet must have been one of your agenda beside UAB, lol.

this should make a grand entrance for George to the AS team, probably all the way up to the team leader.
