Aspern suggestion for aircraft market

This is my suggestion for Aspern when it reaches 1-year anniversary and can be then called a mature old server:

Inject cheap used aircraft (Boeing 737 classics, MD80s, etc.) into a used market.

I have found out through my own experience and that of several other players, that virtually the only way to actually get a chance to establish a profitable (and successful) new startup airline in a saturated market is to create a substantial route network right from the beginning, or in other words, to create a critical mass. This is best possible with cheap used aircraft that lease at 20-30,000 per week. I have seen this model implemented by several successful startups on the old servers where I am playing. In order to compete against huge mega airlines, it is necessary to build a critical mass of routes and connections (of course, along with the proper service and seat selection and the corresponding pricing technique). You cannot build such a critical mass with 2 or 3 brand new (or 1-year old) Airbuses or Boeings. Even with tremendous luck and getting year-old planes off Aspern market at 22% discount (the maximum discount I have seen for AS-owne planes on used market) it is still not possible to build a critical mass even if getting a fleet of discounted CRJ700s.

Of course, failure to start meaningless competition is convenient to the current players there :) but wouldn't it be nice for players to be able to create such startup airline and give existing airlines a run for their money? On Fornebu I have seen Queensferry Airlines raise out of nowhere with a large fleet of old B737-300s. It grew to be one of the major U.S. airlines with well over 400 planes (then it suddenly disappeared). Also, if a major player bankrupts on Aspern, without many used old cheap aircraft and only having year-old planes on the market, new players have zero chance to move in quickly, because other in-country competitors with huge fleets will just buy off additional one-year-old planes off the market and place them there... simply because they are big and have capital available.

My own experience: I had a chance to establish myself on a major South American market on an old server thanks to plenty of cheap used 737 classics available, and grab a good piece of slots before the existing big airline that was left there could grab them all. I was also able to establish a good competing airline in USA and grab some slots at a major hub on another old server, thanks to many used cheap planes available. But even so, one of the established airlines gave me a big run for the slots and grabbed more than I could, simply because they shifted capacity, used their (many) idle aircraft, and got additional planes off market (they got newer ones, I got older and cheap ones). Had it not been for the availability of cheap used aircraft, there would be zero chance to establish myself at that major U.S. hub. So it is my strong belief that placing old used cheap planes on Aspern at certain point in the future (maybe a one year anniversary, or when it drops below 500 players) would level playing field for new entrants on that particular server.

And no, I do not plan on playing on Aspern myself :) I am quite overextended among several of the current old servers I play on :)

But I would be interested to know, what are other fellow players' (and AS's) opinions about this?

I kind of figured it would happen.

It seems to me that Aspern had a lot of changes at the outset that tried to close some of the gaping holes of manipulation that Gatow had when it started. One of these, of course, was having no used aircraft at the beginning. It forced airlines to be selective about what they chose to fly, and while there still could be improvement, it was definitely a step in the right direction.

The reason I think it is going to happen is two-fold. First is exactly what you pointed out in your post. Competition. Without it, there really is no point to be paying for the game. Secondly, I think it adds a dimension to the game that is important. A third-dimension (depth), you could say. As long as Aspern has none of the older aircraft, every airline is going to pretty much be the same. Same aircraft, same configurations. There's no variation.
