I don’t know if this issue has been discussed before. But wouldn’t it be better if there was a direct cost in opening/setting up branch offices at airports? At the moment a simple click is all one needs to open an office which is a bit too easy. Just a thought…
This is very topical theme. )) I think it’s not necessary to open the branch office in every airport. For example: if Airline make one flight per day (or less) - in this case the function of representation performs Supervisor.
I am not sure I understand your message. But based on your example, if you find that you can only make one flight per day then it means that route is not viable and hence no need to open a branch office. What’s happening now is that we open branch offices where ever we can without it costing the airline. AS is based as close to the real thing/world as possible. You don’t see airlines around the world opening branches carelessly …do you?
People use it to study routes and make a game plan that way they can operate in routes that will bring in money and that way they will also have some stats on who is running on the route. I would be against paying to open for an office…
@lenroy, think about it for a minute. If this feature is added to the game, it will enhance the sense of realism in the game. Perhaps another feature can be added to study the route pax/cargo demands. But that s another matter. I strongly feel the need to have a cost related to opening branch offices. You dont see Virgin, BA or United opening branch offices carelessly do you?
No, no! Study routes and make plan… - in the real airline engaged commercial department. For order gather information about the statistics is not necessary to open branches. Statistics – is the system of internal electronic information.

Certainly, but there’s no point in opening branches in every city/airport. In this case enough to open the Representation Airline (with ticketing offices).
To me, this would be a horrible idea that would get LOTS of people unhappy…specially when it comes to increasing costs of operation. You could always be forced to have employees in each office you open(branch managers) but i don’t think AS will implement such a thing…and i wouldn’t like it if AS was to implement it
Game or simulator? Simulator reproduces all, just like in life, business. AS - this is not a Game, it’s the Simulator, then we need to strive for real busines-model. )
As close as an simulation is getting to the reality there are always aspects which won’t be simulated as they may not have any influence or are not in focus for the aim of the simulation. Opening a branch in AS means more or less contracting the airport with the right to operate (physically) flights there. The rest like check-in is paid per flight.
Then we need to correctly identify many things. Opening a branch - this is not the opening of the office. Then is a ageement. Typically Airlines sings agreements with Airport Supervisor, which provide a whole process hadling/catering service (collect bills, load sheets, cargo manifests, managed different contractors etc).
For example, in some Russian airports cost of Supervisor services range from $60 to $100 per flight.
I think that over time you can develop two versions of Airlinesim: first - for gamblers (light), second - for professionals users (difficult and detail). For professionals users can increase game-cost in 2 times. I’m ready to pay! )
In addition, I think, that realism modeling is so easier: in this case no need to invent, use fantasy, and to establish non-existent rules.
Branch office cost could be a staffing cost. At the moment there is an “office manager” position, but it’s not staffed for some reason (question - when does it get staffed)? If you had to pay every week for a manager for each office, this would discourage players from opening offices for the sole purpose of setting up phantom routes and then leaving them open.
When your branch office has no routes that fly to or from the airport, or flight numbers, you can use the “close office” button on the office’s information page. (Quick link from the airport information page)
