I have been trying to convince my friend to join airlinesim for a month or so and I finaly got him to join. The problem is that he refuses to start a normal short haul fleet and all he wants to do is long haul flights. I am afrade that his going to get frustred and stop playing. I need advice for good longhaul flights for him in aircraft like a340s.
There are none. You need connections to feed the long haul flights, and you need at least 2500 departures minimum to be able to fill those long haul flights

It is impossible it just is to start long haul whit 10 million. You need at least 500 million dollars to start long without any feed. Or you can buy long haul planes for him and lease them very cheap to him. I would suggest that you would get him like 20-40 A333E, that would enable him both to go long haul, medium haul and short haul and it is more cost efficient then the 787. Of Course you need money to invite friends ;).
I think there's no way you can just do long hauls. Your company may provide him with all connections and planes for lease, but it would be hard for him to survive when the index is low.
It is not totally true to say that you can't start out long haul. It is possible to fly many transatlantic routes with 737s, for example. I and a few other airlines did this without any of our own feeder, only interlining arrangements, and some grew very rapidly. Granted, this in the first two months of a game world so competition was much less.
But he can try stretching cheap short haul aircraft to their limit, which is usually assisted by a business-heavy config.

Sure, in a new game world that is completely empty, you can successfully start with long-haul as well.
If you are both in a same hub and you have short haul and he does long haul, it’s totally doable. One of my airlines I is set up for the only purpose of providing a long haul link for my alliance partner. I operate just 787 with that airline and loads are good. Basically he provides short haul feed and I fly long haul only. This is doable of you have a strong hub and many short and medium haul connections that can support the long haul.
