I know i'm probably wrong here but I see airlines using over 400 IL18D aircraft. now I have 2 things I don't get on these things.
1. Why do I see so many of them around if they are so impopulair to passengers (does the sim ignore that fact that the plane is impopulair?) and still book full flights on it.
2. Is this not a bit of the same we all ready discussed about the small planes blocking all the slots at major fields only this is a bigger plane.
They might be cheap in the real word too but still you won't see them at LHR, AMS, CDG and so on simply cause there banned from the major airports.
I know I probably spoil the game for a lot, but in my opinion its not real. If you want to buy 500 of them at the start fine but use them we're there still allowed.
Why some airline use over 400? Because they can order them as new. The price is from the early 50 or 60´s. And passenger popularity is just one point for your airline image who is one point in the calculation.
Because the IL is a Turboprop its fuelusage is really good for the age.
So i guess if ryanair can buy a new IL18D for 875k they would buy them.
Of they could they would, but they are not so there must be a reason. And one would simply be that they would be refused at airports with aircraft like that.
i don't think airport can set rule saying certain aircraft is not allowed to fly in, unless it's because of regulations like noise restriction. Some aircraft were replaced because a better model was made or it was not worth to keep them. One of the examples is YS11: great aircraft, but it was just costing too much to install TCAS on it, so airlines abandoned the model. it doesn't mean the aircraft is not good to fly.
One thing i'm not so sure is whether price listed for IL18 is right ingame: if the price was from 1960s data, it won't be right because 875k in 1960s is certainly different from 875k now.
