Are the 757,767 and 777 considered the same maintenance category? Or is 777 part of its own?
Each has their own maintenance category. The aircraft’s model information page gives those details. The 757 is category 6, the 767 is category 7, and the 777 is considered to be category 8.
You can operate all variants of the 757, and it only consumes one of your three ‘free’ maintenance categories, because they’re all classed under category 6. Likewise with the 767 and 777.
Maintenance category is different from pilot certification. A 757 pilot can also pilot a 767 because they share a common pilot type rating.

I really don't understand how AS determines whether the aircraft have the same maintenance category. If it's based on type certificate, 747-8 should use a new category. However, it's obvious that all 747 are under one category in AS.

Last time I operated both (about 3 years ago) they where in the same maintenace category.

That's something I always use before I add new types in the fleet. :D
757/767 are separated categories on that list for a long time, though they are also using the same pilots categories.
