I want to start operating medium haul routes , I have a strong short haul routes currently that are doing very well , but i am afraid I don't have enough pax /connections to fill the medium haul aircraft .I will be flying JHB-NBO , JHB-LOS, JHB-ADD,and so on . How many connections must I have to fill my medium haul aircraft?
stating your world and your airlines would increase your chances of getting insightful answer.
I'm not sure anyone flying JHB to NBO, LOS, or ADD, from JNB perhaps?
there certainly quite a lot O/D demand between this points, so just give it a try
by AS definition, medium haul is 2000-5000 nm, and quite a few aircraft type you can use,
from 50 seater CRJ200LR to 853 seater A380, so what kind of aircraft are you thinking to use?
My world is Devau , and nova airlines . I am planning to use A320-200 light(enhanced) .
I took a look at your airline and what I see is that you REALLY need a bigger regional feeder (feeders are extremely important in markets like africa). In africa you need a very good connection network with a good wave system. Try to fly to airports in all the surrounding countries and also in SA with CRJ200, CRJ700 or ATRs. You need to fly to at least 30 destinations and have at least 800 weekly departures before you will be able to fill longer routes.
Then when you want to do that I see the A320Es or A319Es as a perfect choice.

Thanks , Thats is what I was afraid of , I would rather spend money on expanding my local connections first before I waste money to get a narrow body jet that I wont fill . As you might have seen I operate a A320-200 curently and it is diong great on the two routes , but another narrow body wont do good on the other routes thus it could sink my airline. Thanks for the advice.
On a different server, I started daily NBO - JNB when I had only 200+ weekly departures, using my only 738. The initial load wasn't great, yet sustainable. Of course, that depends on how competitive the route is. But definitely give it a try, a 2X weekly test-drive schedule wouldn't hurt even if you decide to cancel it later on.
