2:I've just opened a new route and lucky to get over 10% load... Will this improve over time or do I need to do something?

Yes the simulation runs on real time.
You need to get as best ORS as you possibly can at the lowest per seat cost possible (ORS limit is 99 and in some cases 100) and establish a hub and spoke feeder network, scheduling flights to arrive and depart in waves.
