Reduce Passenger Popularity for Russian Aircraft

Okay, I mentioned age only as a further example of the same problem.

But I still believe: Most people do not know what they are flying with. A friend mine works in AMS an lives nearby FRA. He didn't know nor care what plane he is travelling with twice a week. My girlfriend went to a conference in IAD and also didn't know nor care what plane she was in. Other friends only know or remember what they were in if it was "really good" or "really bad". I really think many of the AS players do have a lot of aircraft-affiliated friends and might misjudge public knowledge of aircraft types. But it's just my opinion, I also might be wrong.

That is why I thought aircraft age and type is really not important. Comfort, service, image and money do. Heck if I have to do a transcon on a 5-star airline flying DC-8-70s that is cheaper, more comfortable and have a better service, why not?

Does flying an old airplane bother me? Not really. CI had a bad reputation back in my parent's days and they would do everything to avoid CI even if the 77W/744s are actually newer than CX's, cheaper than CX and have a better on-board service.

However, it may be a good idea to link the number of old planes in active service in an airline with its image so that large players wont buy up every single used plane in the market. I am not exactly sure how to do it though.

Does type bother me? Not really again. Maintenance records bother me more. Planes were not built to crash they were built to fly. More often than not a crash is the result of sloppy maintenance. If CX or NZ operates Tu-154 or Il-96, I dont think anyone would have a safety concern when flying with them. On the other hand, I would be (slightly) worried if I am flying on a Q400 or ATR with a Amazon flyer or an outback African airline simply for their worse maintenance records. (no offence intended)

This goes back to my opinion that the ORS and rating calculation is not perfect, but still I would think that it is a close enough simulation of what is happening in the real life (kudos to the team) and therefore I think it is not as important as the upcoming turnaround overhaul and marketing.

That being said, I have no idea how much weight have been attached to the various parameters when calculating ORS and image so I better let the more experienced to comment on it

having worked in customer care as a studend, people often don’t know the used mobile service provider or the size of the sim card required to operate their mobile phone even though they just bought the stuff. I, too, believe that members of this community are more aware of aircrafts and usually only talk to people about this topic that, too, are in some way affiliated with it. (or did any of you successfully use AS when first talking to a hot girl or boy in a bar? ). so I agree, perception might be off from reality

"So... what do you prefer? A 737-400HGW or a A320-200?"

Should be the best opening line EVER! :D :D

Let's face it: We're nerds.

amen to that

Better to ask a Gen X'er if someone would fly on a Brazilian airplane that is as old as their children and twice as old as their car? Then inform them that they are flying on a ERJ-145...

Their only complaint is that the damn plane is so cramped and flies MSY-EWR in real life...
