thanks for all your help on my recent topics, but should i start with multiple routes when starting an airline because i started as my hub in bahrain and the thing is i leased 1 Q400A and if i start with one route to one country at start a new airline my schedule would have alot of space + i wouldnt make as much money to cover leasing and salary costs even maintenance ratio reset costs
Doha/Dubai/Abu dhabi/muscat/Riyadh/dammam/Kuwait are all regional airports with high demands to Bahrain (and each other).
I would ALSO STRONGLY suggest that for each destination, start with one route eastwards, followed by one route westward, and so on. This will give you some connecting traffic.
Also try and get some strong IL agreements in the bag.
With one Aircraft you can fly to 4 or even 5 different destinations. If you see that the plane gets full just do the same flights with the 2nd plane with 2 hrs difference and so on. If one destination did not work just try to find another one that gets you the passengers.
There is a huge benefit in having more than one destination on a plane.
For example, if you schedule Khi - bah and then bah - kwi, your pax can transfer over to the next flight eve if the min transfer time is not fulfilled. So again, I would suggest a destination east followed by west followed by east and so on…
is it possible to transfer an aircraft schedule from one aircraft to another?
You have to do it manually.
In the new aircrafts schedule, click on ‘existing flight number’ and select the days you want to transfer. Note that the flight times and turnaround times will change depending on our new aircraft, and you may lose slots in the process.
I have 3 Dash Q400A's which I've had for 1 month now.
I’ve signed interlining agreements with the biggest airlines in the UK
I’ve organised my timetable to co-incide with thier flights, being as efficient as possible.
And now I have a profit margin of…-154% Yes, Negative 154% The only way I can keep this going is to use the stock market.
Go into the details for each flight. See which ones are making a profit. May just be the case that the lutes you’re running don’t ae that much demand. If you’re getting good loads, look at pricing a little higher.
Also look at flight ratings, see if you can reduce the cost of on board servicing, staff wages etc. if you are small, make sure you don’t sign toooo many IL agreements because they also have a huge cost associated with them.
I'll cut my fleet down to 2, cancel 1 interlining agreement and sell some stock, we'll see how it turns out
I hate to say it because I hate it when my IL partners suddenly disappear on me, but you'd be in a better position if you restarted your company. After terminating the interline agreement, you'd still have to terminate the network planning staff that were hired when you started interlining. That's a fair amount of severance pay. If you only terminate the IL agreement, then your costs don't decrease, because the staff are still on payroll.
I disagree with some of the comments on one point - I think that using one aircraft on different routes is not a good idea. The reason is that the passenger demand (C/Y/F) varies a lot from one route to the other. That means you can never get the optimum seating. If you use an aircraft on just one route, then you can tune the seating to get 100% load factor.
I fly routes with little competition, that all connect to my interlining partner's flights, The price performance ratio is 5 green bars, the overall reputation for economy and business is around 60-70% and my maintanence ratio for all planes varies from 100.3%-103.6%
I also am just starting out,i do have 1 IL contract with another airline...i've got 3 leased Boeing 737 routes flying in and around Australia, i have a base in Melbourne(MEL).i've got my routes to Brisbane and Sydney planned out..so hopefully they work
I've just checked your schedule and if you check all but 5 of your routes have no competition at all (cph, bod, ext, osl, zrh). Then you have to remember Manchester is just down the road from Liverpool so theres going to be some competition from there as well.
I'd suggest you need to look at your scheduling and spread some routes out a bit more evenly. For example LPL-PIK runs twice a week...both on a Sunday? LPL-EDI runs 4 a week, all Mon,Tue and Wed. I try and spread evenly, so if operating 4x weekly I try for M-W-F-S, and 3x weeky -T-T-S-
Ianmanson, you wouldn't mind taking a look at my routes either would you?..just so it helps me a little in terms of the feedback..
thank-you
