I’m looking into the possibility to assign flights to a passenger terminal. I see in some airports there are terminals with warious capacities. You have to sign a contract with the owner of the terminal, and there you have to agree upon a certain capacity. Lets say i sign for 1000 units (passengers) for AS$10, but my flights are not booked 100% and in fact only 800 passengers are travelling. Do I then still need to pay for 1000 pax, or will i pay for 800? In such case it will be cheaper to stick to the AS terminal instead…
And how will this affect connections with interlining partners that operates from other terminals? What about my check-in and ramp staff, will they be transfered to the new terminal or will I be overstaffed for a while?
You pay for whatever you've agreed to by contract. If you sign a contract to handle 1000 passengers, you'll always pay for 1000 passengers. If you use the non-contract default handling, you only pay for what you actually use.
The benefits can be a cheaper cost per passenger, but you're also directly giving money to your competitors.
Having or using a terminal doesn't affect your operations, except to provide a slightly better passenger experience. Your current handling staff will still be employed, and all interline connections will still take the same amount of time.
What if I make a contract to handle 100 passengers for 8$ and finally there are 120 that fly over the week. Which ones will be handled by which terminal? Do I assign all of my flights to the new terminal and everything happens automaticaly. Can anyone give a simple exemple or a link (if it is already explained somewhere)?
If your capacity is 100 (in your Stations page) but you have only a load of 90%, then you would need a terminal for 90.
Once you have built (and assigned) or rented the terminal, you have to assign the flights to that terminal.
Rest assured, you should only start thinking of building terminals, if you have way too much money and don’t know what to do with it. If you are in an alliance and others provide you with a terminal, then of course happily accept that generous offer.
