I recently installed a tool to detect website trackers and noticed that Airlinesim uses Google Analytics. I was a bit suprised, since this is not explicitly mentioned anywhere in the game. Of course I can understand that "simulogics" wants to evaluate traffic and demand for requests. Nevertheless I was wondering whether it would not have been possible to use a more "neutral" solution to gather such data.

Google Analytics it's one of the best -if not the best- tool out there available, and it's free. Why would they use something else?
Well, and in germany it is agains privacy law and you need to sign an agreement with google to use it legaly. ;)

The problem I see with such a tool is the central tracking and collecting of activity. If Analytics was a decentral software that was just run a single entity on the game server, it would still be able to analyze and study the players behavior. However because the software is operating on so many different websites and also able connect user IPs to Google Accounts (such as Gmail, Youtube, Picasa...) it is capable to track an individuals behaviour.
Google Analytics is a great tool to help us to explore from where our costumers are and if we need further language versions or new payment methods. Also it helps to figure out which may the best time for launching new server etc. There is no interest (and no chance due to shortened IPs) to follow an individual.

Correct and not correct - it is allowed under certain circumstances which we are fulfilling.

Also ich sehe keinen Hinweis auf Google Analytics wie er von den Behörden gefordert wird. und wie gesagt, eure Datenschutzerklärung solltet ihr daher mal prüfen lassen. Das gilt auch für den like Button
