A question regarding Ground Networks

Hi everyone, im new here so forgive me if im asking an old question, i didnt find an exact answer by searching old topics.

Im interested in details regarding Ground Networks. Ill be using an example of my current conundrum:
My airline currently flies from Milan (MXP) to London (LCY). I was planning on opening flights to another London area / Ground Network airport.

The questions are:

  1. If i for example open flights from MXP to LGW/LHR or any other airport that is in LCY’s Ground Network, will these flights cannibalise demand on my MXP-LCY flights?
  2. Subsequently, if i open a route to LCY from LIN, which is in MXP’s Ground Network, will these flights cannibalise demand on my MXP-LCY flights?
  3. Additionally, if another airline flies between any other airports in the Ground Networks of London and Milan, for example LIN-LHR, are these airlines flights cannibalising demand on my MXP-LCY flights?

  1. Yes (At least in the current system), since now you’re giving the MXP-LGW or MXP-LHR demand a way to arrive directly, rather than having to use Ground networks. I don’t think “cannibalise” is a good word, I’d rather say depleted
  2. Yes, because now, you’re letting people arrive directly from LCY to LIN and vice versa
  3. Yes, because they give a more direct route, and AS passengers would prefer a route as direct as possible

Happnes again, please ask the question you have, even if you think it’s a very silly question
By asking this question, you’re doing a favor for other new players, since they’ll have an easier time to find what they’re looking for
