A340 max capacity

Hi I am just wondering why the 345 and 346 have this strange number of maximum capacity? AFAIK those numbers are TYPICAL 1-class seating but not MAXIMUM seating.

I don't operate the 340s but I am just wondering if these numbers are actually correct.

Thank you.

I can't see the A340 values on Airlinesim since I play on Aspern, but the correct values should be:

A340-600: 520 max (according to Wiki) or 475 max (according to Airbus)

A340-500: 375 max (according to Airbus)

In  my experience, this max capacity is only general value using when you will install SLIM seats.  If you choose different this capacity will be change but it not comparable ! For example , that same capacity aircraft , have got different capacity COMFORT seats (772 / 333) .

Do not worry especially those general value of max seats.

I think AS need this various and un-real value to properly convert  at a higher level of the seat( LEASURE , LEASURE+, COMFORT .....)

I understand that one will have to install slim seats to reflect the max capacity....but I just want to get the facts straight out there. I am sure no one believes that the 345 has a smaller CERTIFIED capacity than the 343...

I think the Airbus max number is just the typical 1-class seating....again, I could be wrong, but thank you! :)

The seating capacity in the A330/340 series is determined via exit limits.

Airbus offers one standard variant and one with a modified exit (mod.40161) for A330/340 variants 200 and 300.

The standard variants have one Type I emergency exit aft of each wing.

Mod 40161 replaces this Type I with a full Type A exit that allows the evacuation of more people within the mandatory evacuation timeframe.

According to regulatory bodies (EASA) the max seating capacity for emergency evacuation is as follows:

A330-200:

375 pax (standard)

406 pax (mod 40161)

A330-300:

375 pax (standard)

440 pax (mod 40161)

A340-200:

375 (standard)

420 (mod 40161)

A340-300:

375 (standard)

440 (mod 40161)

A340-500:

375 (standard)

A340-600:

440 (standard)

AFAIK, Airbus found a way to reconfigure the seating (9-abreast) to allow 475 with the existing exits.

I guess many of you are curious about what that real difference between the "standard" and the Mod40161 is.

Here's a few pics - always pay attention to the exit aft of the wings!

Hope that clarifies it.

As said above, the 343 is available with an exit modification while the 345 is not.

So with both "standard" versions having the same number of exits (each side with 3x Type A + 1x Type I) , they naturally also have the same capacity of 375.

With mod40161, the 343 has 4x Type A at each side, giving it a certification max of 440 seats.

Of course, in order to be "correct" all the way, AS would need to offer both variants seperately.

Why?

Because the larger type A exits come along with additonal costs and weight.

Naturally, no real airline would opt for the mod if they would not see a real need for the extra capacity. Consequently, the vast majority of real A330/340 is certified for not more than 375 pax.

Thanks AK for clarifying this :)

Yep, but this will be part of a new performance system "somewhen" ;)

I will be looking forward to this!! Not that I am going to operate any A340 though....

No pressure! ;)
