Why not introduce advertising. Airlines can pay to have an advert on TV, radio or newspaper etc. This would cost money but boost your rating and bookings.
This is a bit of a stretch but maybe introduce package holiday options like Jet2 currently does.
There still had not been a marketing model invented which would not benefit large airlines with pile of money disproportionately more than small(er) or startup airlines.
Such as, my own airline would buy all lucrative airtime on TV and radio and front pages in all popular newspapers and magazines plus all billboards on major roads in the city and your would only get past-midnight availability in radio/TV, an ad in the middle of the classifieds section of a Tier-3 newspaper, and billboards in the back country. How about that?
As Rubio says. As long as the competitor cant do it and it brings some money or image (which brings more money) I would spend some unused billions buying all advertising I can get. Anyone around the world would wake up hearing "CBE" played through large speaker, open the window seeing CBE, reading the newspaper which would be completely purple reading CBE, taking the buss to work which is painted in CBE colours, buy a coffee served in a CBE cup, basically all they would ever see would be CBE. Basically everything would be CBE and competitors or start ups cant do anything. In the real world profits which are not reinvested are given to shareholders so no airline has more money than they can spend.
Years ago there was a page in the menu with "advertising" but not much more than an empty page with the word.
I wonder about the influence advertising has on bookings these days. I would argue that most people just go to a booking site for the lowest rate. They may avoid a certain carrier due to past experiences and public opinion, but this is already partly modeled with the "image" factor.
I agree that nowadays choices are mostly made by past positive and negative experiences. I have flown with a lot of carriers but I know to never again fly TAP and avoid American Airlines as much as I can (sadly had no other choice on MIA-HAV earlier this year). I also know that I will mostly book Norwegian flights in Europe and Spirit or Virgin America in America. When going to to African I would chose Turkish or Qatar and when going to Asia I would prefer Singapore or ANA. There are just these unconscious choices which for me are not chosen due to the marketing I have seen but due to the experiences I have had.
And airline advertising, at least in my country, are mostly about cheap fare announcement, rather than telling everyone that an airline offer premium service, reclining seat, bla bla bla. Even on TV. Premium airline, once or twice, ads their new improvement. But come on, what is it for? Every passengers have already know this and that premium airlines. They might have even experienced flying in it, and they have already booked their opinion for that airline. In the end, they try to look for the best fare.
Regarding the package holidays. I think it is a great idea but it is too difficult do develop and we are airlinesim not "travelsim" thereby focusing on the airline part of things would be the best. Though a charter function has been in the talks since I can remember AS though nothing has happened so far and probably wont happen. If it happens package holidays maybe are part of it.
