Ancillary revenues

Hello,

Last time this was mentioned was 2011, but I think it's a good and feasible idea so I'm bringing it up again.

The introduction of ancillary revenue options for airlines would add diversity to the type of business models that can be operated, much like the new dynamic turnarounds can do.

For example:

- Charging passengers for checked baggage (this could also influence turnaround times by making it quicker to load aircraft)

- Charging for food and drink (possibly with the option of catering contracts much like maintenance contracts)

- Onboard advertising on seat backs or in-flight screens

  • Booking fees to receive an extra flat fee from every passenger

The idea would be that players could adopt a budget airline or full-service business model. Or something in between.

It was mentioned in 2011 that the introduction of different kinds of passengers, with and without luggage would be too too much for the developers but possibly a simplified version could work?

Just now I thought of incorporating IT costs for maintaining the airline's website and booking system, and including the management of a call centre in the costs of the airline, but that might be getting a bit too much like real life...

We have things like these on our roadmap :)
