Best Aircraft for Connecting Secondary Airports?

I’m having some trouble finding a suitable aircraft on my routes from my main hubs to secondary airports. One example is Denver to Pasco. I’ve tried to use the E175 and the Dash 8 but both end up losing thousands of dollars each flight. I’m not sure what else to use. Please help.

Are your planes full and losing money, or mostly empty and losing money?

In general, for smaller routes, I’ve found the CRJ series to be good.

The planes are usually around 50-75% full but still losing money. I think the problem is that the planes are able to carry too many people for the route while the plane is meant for longer routes than smaller ones. I’ll try the CRJ series though. After checking it out, it seems like it will work.

Another way to making money on that (or any regional) route is ensuring good connectivity at Denver. I operate a medium-size hub at Denver and can easily fill (100%) CRK, E190, A220 on that route.

From what I can see, you have restarted your ops using now Airbuses 321 and instead of serving many cities you have focused on just 2 with plenty of frequencies. Also the ratio of utilization of your aircraft is below desirable.
I would suggest using a cheaper aircraft that would allow you to have a greater number of birds, thus giving you the option of serving more markets…

I first started out using smaller aircraft (E175s) and serving many cities but that was costing me too much money. I had to restart because I was in debt and was going to fail anyways. I have 2 A321s serving the routes that I knew had high demand and I knew could make money (which is working). My plan however is to get some smaller aircraft which can help serve the secondary airports.

If your planes are 50 to 75% full, you just need more connections. CRJ’s half empty won’t do great either.

Just out of curiosity, is your goal a smaller, regional type airline, or a more general airline for the US?

If it’s the latter, get the small markets later. When you get enough connections you can start serving the smaller markets without a problem in any of the planes mentioned if you want.

As far as your current plan goes, 321’s are excellent for a workhorse plane in the USA. With a decent structured wave system, you should be able to do well.
