In the game, I think some of the following countries have relative few airports compared to the geography/population/shape of these countries (irrespective of their demand), and third party websites indicate these countries have more airports in real world, which I think it would be helpful to add more of them into the game to represent the act of serving those area/population covered by them:
North Korea
East Timor
Myanmar
Kyrgyzstan
Kazakhstan
Uzbekistan
Liberia
Guinea
Burkina Faso
Niger
Central African Republic
Democratic Republic of the Congo
Zimbabwe
Botswana
Uruguay
Paraguay
Nicaragua
And the following airports in some of the countries with few airports:
If there are airports with an IATA code and sufficient scheduled traffic, we add them. The former is a hard criterion at the moment. Were we to go down to the level of “airports” with just ICAO codes, the amount of candidate airports would explode.
I’d not argue the DPRK has a similar desparity, but due to how little info comes out of the DPRK, I am not sure we’re going to get up to date data
Regarding the implementation of not fully sovereign countries into the game, almost none of the addition of these will contribute to the game, since they’d nerf already not so strong countries if not weak, though I’d be in favour of having Uyghur East turkmenistan independent in game, so China PR would be less OP
I think North Korea is always going to be the exception to the rule. They choose to have a closed economy & to exist in isolation. So its a bit of a what can you do type situation. If that were to change then great but otherwise I don’t see where your going to find much reliable data.
& I don’t suppose it would be wise to just fake it either since unlike other regimes or different forms of governance where you can separate the business/trade from the minefield that is country politics. You can’t easily do that for North Korea so it would look a bit propagandist, since the rest of the game tries to realistically portray global air travel.
There’s also such a small amount of traffic coming out of North Korea that it makes my local look like London Heathrow by comparison. So it makes sense that the country made isn’t turned into a mega hub in AS either.
