If you are a regular reader of the devlogs, neither of these two facts will surprise you:
- Not much is going on right now as I am moving house.
- I really dislike combo breakers
So this issue is a bit of a cheat: I’ll just cover week 16 and 17 in one go as this coming week (17) I definitely won’t get around to anything but basic support. This also means that logo screening and ticket response times might be a bit longer than usual. Starting with week 18, things should start to normalise again. Thank you very much for your understanding!
That said, it’s not like nothing happened at all.
Last Monday I rolled out a long-overdue maintenance patch and given how many code changes went into it (mostly under the hood), it went incredibly smooth. Phew!
It also looks like it at least somewhat achieved what I intended, namely making game worlds more stable under high load. Didn’t have to give any ORS a kick in the rear since the patch went out. Fingers crossed it stays that way!
Hardened against high load or not, bots and crawlers continue to be an issue. Last week, our ops partner and I had to look into suspicious behavior once again, resulting in the ban of several Chinese IP ranges where high amounts of bot-like traffic originated. I wish I could spend my limited time on something more productive…
If you haven’t read it yet, on Friday I also posted a quick run-down of what’s going on in the development department. Probably not too many new information if you follow the devlog, but a handy summary nonetheless.
And last but not least, this morning I launched Otto into its 8th iteration.
Have fun and see you in two weeks!
