Distances from an Airport

How about including a tool in the route management that allows a search of airports within  a certain distance from your home base and hubs. It should be a database containng all the information listed in the airports tab.

For example it would be useful to see which airports i can fly from BWI within a 500/1000/1500/2000 and up to 15000 miles range. This is a useful tool that saves time looking through the maps for places to fly. Once the search is complete a create route shortcut next to the results would be fine.

Good suggestion! It would be thoroughly helpful

I agree, it would certainly help cut down the large amount of time I spend scouting airports.

It sounds like a great idea to me, as well.

Yes please :)

I would love to add to this feature following function: Which Airports could be reached within xy Minutes (or perhaps which Airports could be reached within a xy-Minute-Turn-Around)

Great idea

And the next is that the game plans the planes for us... come on guys.

A map where all airports are shown and you just have to click on it to know what airport it is would be nice tho...  -_-

That is the problem. In adding such (and other helping functions) the game will loose the interesting parts. We already thought about such tools but we decided it should be up to the player to find new destinations on his own.

Isn´t it one of the most interesting parts of AS, to discover the (real) world for your airline? And to calculate und try, how to create an optimal flight plan for your plane?

I spent lots of days on Google Earth and Maps, Wikipedia, gcmap, Openstreetmap and the AS-performance tool,  to find out, where are some airports in a special range or to find new and interesting destinations - and if they are reachable for my planes.

I´ve never learned so much about geography as here in (and for) AS.  There are some countrys, i´ve never seen in real life, but today i know the location of nearly all airports in these countrys. ;)

But in one point i agree with FENCC01:

Clicking on a red dot at the country maps and AS says: this is aiport XY ...  yeah, that would be nice  for me too (or at least a short info by mouse hoover at the map. )

Yes, that would be very, very helpful.

Hey Skywalker 74. How about not posing any aircraft information at all. That would make you learn a lot about them, like for example range, ground roll landind, take off, etc. You can then spend a lot of extra days finding out that information. I am sure it would make the game more interesting to you.

This game caters to different types of players. There are the hardcore guys who try and learn everything they can about the airline industry, airports, aircraft, etc. and make powerhouse enterprises. There also are the "weekend players" who do it just to have a little fun and don't really care much about competition and how many passengers their airline carries compared to others. Then there are all the shades of gray in between. AS is a good balance that allows people to run their airline pretty much however they want.

@mporcel: Nice idea! :D  One challenge more ;)

Joking apart: i don´t think your idea with showing airports within a special range is so bad (if you think so).  But i´am with caithes above, when he says, that the balance of AS is good.  Due to a fulltime job, a family and some other hobbys than AS,  i´m not a hardcore gamer - but i love maps and this might be the reason, why i dont see a "show me airports function" as so necessary. And getting a list from AS of possible airports for a plane  with a "create route" shortcut is a little bit to easy in my eyes.

Maybe one day we all have this function, than you can use it (its ok for me!) and i continue using my "classical" maps. But it would be fine, if the thing with the map and the red dots (as described above) then be available, too ;)

I  support this information by mouse hover, too. Especially in countries where airports are divided in regions (did someone say "India" ? ;-)  ) it would very helpful to find airports

You can use my route map tool for that… There you get the info about the airports with a mouse hover…
