"Final Rankings"/"Awards" for Quimby

Hello everybody and a happy new year,

after a longer break the new major update brought me back to AS just in time for the 'new' Quimby server. I think the simulation has really improved a lot regarding usability and reporting. Very nicely done!

Just a suggestion: Long, long ago in the past we had the "airlinesim Awards" in different categories (liveries, web page, ...). How about we take this whole "award" topic a level further and at least publish the final "rankings" regarding several KPIs within the game? This way, the "Quimby Experience" would not just be lost after the server is shut down or reset. After all, it is a full fledged game world everybody pays for.

Examples:

- standard statistics: airline with most pax, most pax/wk, most cargo units shipped,... --> just like the weekly statistics page

- highest amount of seat-km offered, cargo-km offered (final standing)

- biggest profit / loss or highest equity/total asset value at the end of the game world

- biggest fleet by types/a/c families or categories (narrow-body jet, wide-body, turboprop, regional...)

- biggest number of served destinations pax/cargo

- ...

--> bonus for all figures would be a filterable/drillable page as we know it from today's statistics.

I would love to get such an overview or a ranking page. Also very motivating, if you plan on introducing more limited time game worlds :) . A fresh start every now and then seems to draw many players.

Some of those figures once also were weekly statistics (seat-kms) but have been removed at some point of time.

That’s a very interesting thought to create a sort of historical highscore. Thinking about that one step further, it’s quite a pity that on all servers, nothing ever reminds of a former airline after its deletion, even if it was the worldwide number one. For the game mechanics this makes no difference, as passenger demand and bookings are created new every day, but it would still be great to see at least a bit of historical data of the servers archived, e. g. a static info page for those airlines which reached a certain threshold (100,000,000 passengers or cargo units). But I could totally understand if this would be too much unnecessary data to keep over time.

It shouldn't be that much. The database itself is there (now and in February), all individual transactions (=bookings) can be deleted after a final statistics update and the creation of "hard" entries. Fleet lists can be deleted afterwards, as well.

I would be some sort of "hall of fame" and a little reward for anybody playing there until now :) .

I like this idea I really do. I will sadly not be taking any award as I am not playing on Quimby and I have never played on any of the 3 Quimby's.

This brings me back to the idea of longer limited time only game worlds (3 years or so) ;-)

If I find the time, I might compile a few such stats and put them on the blog and the respective board on the forums. I don't see a "proper" technical solution for this right now, though.

thank you very much for your reply.

I also intended this as a future "motivation" tool for you to use with your customers. I of course have absolutely no clue about how the database structure for airlinesim works.

Maybe you can just generate these reports, put up a "quimby final statistics site" and use most of the code of the current statistics page. That way it is not lost in the forums and will not go obsolete this quickly using the blog.

You do not have to track any live transactional data anymore, but just have a database query regarding the fleets etc. that follows the current "stats per week" logic. It does not need to refresh itself, does not have to do anything fancy :) . It should ideally just allow to browse data (such as the aggregated fleet pages from airlines). Any database should be able to do this (even Excel PowerPivot would do in theory :D ).

I am sure many users would like to able to review their accomplishments whilst also getting a global overview (fleet size, seat-kms) that goes beyond the top-20 statistics.

The database of temporary game worlds is wiped when it is reset and we don't keep those data around anywhere else, especially not live, since they are several gigs in size. So at this time, all I can offer is to have some static reports prepared before the DB is wiped, but no more. I don't have the time at the moment to set up dedicated pages or databases...I'm swamped with work.
