I’m confused about how the ORS works in regards to frequency vs. capacity?
I replaced two simultaneous flights with A321 with a single 787-10 flight, with capacity remaining approximately the same. However the two A321 flights were full before, but the 781 does not reach full capacity. Seating and service are identical. I remember reading somewhere that the ORS prefers multiple bookable connections to a single one with higher capacity, could someone explain the mechanism to me?
Simply said, demand is distributed on bookable connections, weight with their ORS score.
Now lets say there’s 600 pax and three alternative, equally rated connections: every connection gets 200 bookings.
If you replace two connections (321) with one (787), bookings distribute to 300 each.
Or in other words: even if your twice as big 787 scores a slightly better rating, your competition might get some extra bookings.
