I have bean in airlinesim for nearly a year now and I have had 3 accounts in that time. I have not really had an airline that has lasted over a couple of weeks and I just can't find the right way to start up an airline. I am currently inn the Riem gameword and I am looking for a good place to start up an airline and what aircraft to use. Also I am trying to find a good amount of as$ to use on aircraft when I am starting up my airline. Should I only spend half the amount of provided startup money, should I lease or loan aircraft payments? You're help would be greatly appreciated.
Have you read the "startup" blog and watched the youtube tutorials?
My hint: Do not start on the most crowded servers. Many older servers have completely wide open markets or nearly wide open markets. A little bit of research on the front end will make your life much easier on the backend.
The US, EU, and Chinese markets are usually very difficult to break into on an existing server. Possible...but difficult.
Always lease aircraft until you have so much cash you don't know what to do with it all...or until you need to be able to transfer cash between holding and subs.
Not to discourage your endeavor, but even some of the most expert veteran player avoid Riem as it's an advanced game world.
But if you are okay playing a peacefully small airline in middle of nowhere, Riem still offer some opportunities.
Continent like Africa still not so much covered, but for me location is personal preference, that will give you fighting spirit to stay in game.
Being Indonesian, for me it's like Indonesia or nothing lol. It's good that not so many Indonesian around, so only a few really fight for it.
Next, AS is about connection, so when building network, 5 small props are better than 1 big shiny jet. Leasing 5 Q400s cost around $6mio in security deposits, seats around $100k each aircraft, so with 6.5 mio you can start building network with 5 nice props. The choice of aircraft really depend where you start, how long distance of the popular domestic route, etc. Spare some cash for week-end closing to pay employee and aircraft lease, otherwise they will repossess the aircraft send your precious seat to waste.
If you choose to start in some crowded country/hub, have some communication with established player, who knows they might need feeder and willing to cooperate with certain agreement, i.e. have you focus at nearby smaller hub. While it limit your long term growth, at least they can jump-start you by feeding their traffic to your network. Interline is important, but not so many bigger airline willing to interline with start up airline, so unless your hub is quite unique or you find another start up, you probably on your own until you have grow a bit.

This depends. For example in Malaysia I would never take a minion as basically there are only 4 airports whit over 5 bars and it is quite a small country and we would fight for slots. I would never have my main base in a place were I know I am limited.

I think I know what you meen whit "expert veteran player", they are NOT avoiding Riem because it is to hard. I do not think you call me expert veteran player but I have deleted ALL my airlines and started from blank in February and I want to keep it that way whit only 1 holding (not because of the costs but because my soon more limited time while school starts again and our teachers have set higher goals for us to continiue being Sweden´s best school, keeping up the 150 years of excellence, also what to do later as I will not be able to continiue my education in Sweden). Also some people have a life in the summer (otherwise whit school it is imposible), I prefer making a parent free party whit my friends more then scheduling 70 aircraft.
