In the new Individual Travel Requests Distribution System, I noticed that in the sorting results, stopover flights seem to be ranked higher than connecting flights. Does this mean that stopover flights have more advantages?
For example, if I set TFU as the hub and aim to attract connecting passengers traveling from BKK to PEK:
The first option consists of two flights: BKK-TFU and TFU-PEK.
The second option involves a stopover flight: BKK-PEK via TFU.
Will the second option be able to attract more passengers?
I hope I understand the question correctly, but as long as all flights are operated by the same airline (technically: under the same code) they will both be sorted into “group 2” according to neutral display order.
In terms of rating, passengers will book whatever best suits their needs, though. The sorting based on connection quality is only relevant for display (to users) and for internal cut-offs when there are a lot of connections on a given airport pair (a lot more as there is actual demand).
So this is how I understand it: Internally within the system, stopover flights are actually considered as two flights operated by a single airline, except that they share the same flight number.
The new ORS feels more of a “black box” to me compared to the previous one, and I think I still need more time to figure out the rules of its operation.
