I think accidents add a little realism to the game though. Between the 727s, Tu-134s and other old, relatively unreliable aircraft in Gatow right now, it doesn’t make sense that we would never have an accident. Just the 727 has had 100+ hull losses since it was released 50 years ago, that’s two per year. And the Tu-134 has had about 2/year as well. I think this would be a fun feature to have, and yeah it might bankrupt my airline, but at the same time…this is supposed to be real! Look at all the airlines that have folded or merged as a result of crashes…Valujet, Taesa, Fine Air…and there are still more that went bankrupt not long after a crash, like SwissAir, TWA, Pan Am, Air Florida…it’s a reality of the airline world, it should be part of airlinesim!
Although i don’t support the current proposal for plane crashes i have to point you out that this would be just another challenge in the game and not something that takes the fun out of it.
I think we all play this game for the challenges it present us. Otherwise we could just play alone without any competition (Airline 6 - if it rings a bell - but that’s boring).
We had accidents some years ago. But - to be honest - that was not "that" exciting as you may imagine in purpose of having something to deal with. It was mainly a decrease of the image, one aircraft out of the fleet and money from the insurance on the bank account. So if you have a small airline, you were lucky to easily replace it by another aircraft. If you had a larger airlines, you had to figure out which flights were canceled.
All together it was only ad-hoc work and this doesn’t fit to the aim of AirlineSim not to be only 24hours a day to survive.
By the way - sure the 727 had 100+ hull losses in the past 50 years, but many of them within the first years of operations and at the end of their life in Africa etc. - this is not comparable. Wait how many accidents the 737-800 will have when it will be a common aircraft in countries or at airlines not having the knockledge and money to maintain their aircraft like it should be.
All other games featuring accidents (Railroad Tycoon, Cities in Motion), I didn´t find "challenging" at all. As sk said, it is just ad-hoc-work.
A real airline has dispatches who do that work. I could imagine a dispatcher game, where you have to run your planes, cope with delays and substitute break-down planes, that may be challenging and fun. But Airlinesim is another genre, it is a management game, we play the role of a CEO.
Sorry but this is like "Apples" and "Pears" (does this work in English ?!? ). Those are accelerated animated simulations which are played either alone or with two or three other people. You just click on "save" and then destroy the entire city with UFOs and giant monster spiders. But that wouldnt work in a game like this one, as there is just two much interaction with other "real" people…
