Japanair announced more domestic routes and services updates, as well as talked a bit about the impressive fleet and destination expansion.
Over the past few weeks, Japanair has received more than 25 aircraft into their fleet. Being the fastest growing airline basing in Tokyo (Haneda) Airport, and the 4th in the market share, Japanair received 10 more widebody aircraft (2x Airbus 310-300, 2x Airbus 310-300ET, 2x Airbus 300-600R and 4x Airbus 300-600RHGW). Combined with the current 3 Airbus 300-600R, there are 13 widebody in the company's fleet. 'We are delighted to expand our widebody fleet. It means that we can now have chances to provide more mid- and long haul routes to destinations across the Pacific, and in Europe. We are thinking of adding flights to the North America and Northern Europe. As we hope to maintain daily frequency in most of our flights to provide better and comprehensive connections to passengers across Japan, Asia and Sydney (Australia), we are planning to operate flights into west-coast, for example Los Angeles, San Francisco and Vancouver. Once we have acquire suitable slots and have enough pre-bookings, we will announce the routes immediately through webpage and press conference.' the CEO of Japanair said in the press conference. Right now, these widebody are serving daily flights to Sydney, Australia, which is the longest route in the company, as well as daily flights to Bangkok, Thailand and Singapore, the two largest South-East Asian capitals. More frequencies shall be added once more planes are ready to fly. Some domestic trunk routes like Tokyo (Haneda) - Sapporo (Chitose) and Tokyo (Haneda) - Osaka (Kansai) are also operated by the Airbus 300-600R.
In terms of the narrowbodies, we have acquired 15 regional planes (3x Avro R85, 2x Embraer E195, 8x Airbus 320-200 (5 regional configuration and 3 premium configuration and 2x Airbus 321-200). Combined with the current mixed fleet of 8x Embraer 170/175, 7x Avro R85, 2x Airbus 319, 13x Airbus 320, 6x Airbus 321, plus the 1x Airbus 319, 3x Airbus 320 and 2x Airbus 321 on order, we will be having a total of 57 regional planes. In addition with the widebody mentioned above, Japanair now contain an impressive total 70 aircraft in the fleet in just 4 months of operation.
Although with the rapid expansion of fleet, due to slot shortage in Tokyo (Haneda) Airport, Japanair now focuses on operating more frequencies from Tokyo to different Asian and South-East Asian cities in China, Taiwan, Thailand and also looking for opportunities to create city-pairs in the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, South Korea and so on. 'We are now experimenting different flights with a 'charter' tag on them to various cities across Asia, some are purely leisure routes, while some are business-oriented. We are glad that we can finally get the long-chartered flights to Shanghai (Hongqiao) become part of our official schedule, other possibilities include Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Hanoi, Wuhan, Xiamen and Kaosiung. Of course we are not limited to these. We are constantly seizing different chances to gain more aircraft and maximize their utilities by operating more flights out of Tokyo.'
Despite the international expansion of the company, Japanair announced that they are strengthening their role in operating flights to Ryuku Island. Miyako and Ishigaki will be their 34th and 35th domestic destination in Japan, and the 2nd and 3rd after the airline operate 3x daily flights from Tokyo (Haneda) to Okinawa (Naha) (1x daily via Osaka (Kansai)). 'The combined 5x daily from Tokyo to Ryuku Islands allow more holiday-makers to discover the southernmost part of Japan. The hot sun, luxurious spa and resorts, blue sky and water providing passengers to immerse into the excitement of watersports, scuba-diving, and enjoy their holidays. More choices (into Miyako and Ishigaki) can be offered besides Okinawa from now on.
