Live radar equivalent for airport ground movement?

There have been a couple of projects to show AS routes like live radar maps - http://www.asroutemap.info/is one. I was thinking it would be great to have something based on arrivals and departures that showed the ground movements in real time with push-back, docking and so on - at best of course in 3-D virtual reality  ^_^  ^_^  ^_^ - well ok, just a 2-D view to start with.

Has someone done anything like that?

TIA

I’d say the main issue is going to be that real life airport stand capacity is not taken into account. Therefore in AS you would end up with more aircraft on the ground than the airport can handle

An interesting question. I don't think AS tries to simulate this. If you have for example 30 aircraft arriving per hour and each spends an average of 1 hour on the ground, then you will need at least 30 parking positions.  The longer the turnaround time, the more you need. Plus some aircraft will spend at least 2 hours on the ground for maintenance, although this would not take place on the terminal apron.

This would be pretty hard to illustrate every airport. There are currently 4370 airports in the game and drawing out the taxiways and parking spaces for every one of them would be very hard. In airlinesim you can build your own terminals and simulating that would be hard.

That is true. I was thinking more in terms of a simplified layout. As a matter of interest, it's possible to get airport layouts (AFCAD files) in digitized form from some of the MS Flightsim enthusiast sites.  IIRC there was a way to get the contents in textual form as well, but it's a long time since I did anything with MS scenery design.

[edit] there are also text files (*.sct2) used by VATSIM ATC controllers
