First of all, if you have more than 4 maintenance categories in your fleet, you will be charged an extra 15% for maintenance across the entire fleet . . . . so if I have an aircraft in my fleet which is in a 4th maintenance category but I do NOT have any flights scheduled for it will I still be charged the extra 15% ???
ALSO, I have seen elsewhere in the forum that maintenance costs will of course increase 15% when you go from 3 categories to 4 categories, but NOT from 4 to categories to 5 categories, but then they WILL increase again when you go from 5 categories to 6 categories. Is this true ??? And if so, will this pattern continue as you increase maintenance categories, so if you go from 6 to 7 there is no increase in cost, but from 7 to 8 there is another 15% increase ???
As soon as you have more than 3 aircraft types in your fleet, you will pay more. The only exception are owned aircraft, that are on sale.
You have a sort of standard price for your maintenance provider - and for every maintenance category over 3, you will have to add 15% on top of that. So you pay 115% with 4 categories, 130% with 5 categories, ... and this counts for every single maintenance done (visible in you bank account).
No it's not that simple . . . there seems to be lot of confusion on this forum regarding exactly what happens, no one seems to know for sure if you are charged for extra maintenance if you simply have a 4th category of aircraft in your fleet but do not have any flights scheduled with it. I have cancelled the leases on some of my aircraft to reduce the number of maintenance categories, there will be a few days before they leave my fleet where they will not be scheduled to fly any flights. Will I still therefor be paying extra maintanence across my entire fleet for this time or not?
It was also stated specifically in the forum that you will pay extra for a 4th maintenance category but not for a 5th, but then you will be charged extra again when you get a 6th. Is this true or not?
Trust me, it's that simple. I don't really know where you picked up these other theories, but they're simply not true. I can guarantee, it's exactly how i wrote it (I already explained that topic in the German forum section and the team agreed with that).
Yes, you get charged the 15% as soon as the type is in your fleet. As long as it's visible in your fleet management, it counts as a category.
And yes, you pay for every category above 3. I can't really imagine where you picked up, that there might be exceptions. Wouldn't make any sense at all.

I searched in Google for 'airlinesim maintenance categories' and the first search result was this . . . http://community.airlinesim.aero/topic/1972-fleet-type/ . . . in the third post down by Toilet Duck there is a quote which comes straight from the AirlineSim Wiki which clearly states . . .
.IMPORTANT: Your first three maintenance categories are "free", meaning you pay a flat fee of 100% base maintenance costs. The fourth category raises maintenance costs by 15%, the sixth adds another 15% to 130%, and so on.
you can see the actual page on the (English) Wiki where this quote comes from . . .
. . . so as you see, it is not that simple. If you don't know for sure, then just say so and I will have to contact Support directly. It is possible that whoever wrote that Wiki page meant to say 'FIFTH ' when in fact they by mistake said 'SIXTH' (perhaps it was a German to English translation mistake). As you can imagine, this could make a very big difference for some players. If the AirlineSim team agreed with you on the German forum, then I assume that it is a mistake, but naturally I need to know for sure.
It is that simple - and you can judge this as an official statement ;)
Well then you really need to change the page in the English Wiki because it obviously is very wrong !!!
I tried to fix it myself and change 'sixth' to 'fifth', but I kept getting this error message . . .
Database error
A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:from within function "Revision::insertOn". MySQL returned error "1048: Column 'old_text' cannot be null (localhost)".
. . . .so maybe someone else can figure out how to change it instead.
That's an error in the wiki (unfortunately we can not change it at the moment). Each additional category (4th, 5th, 6th etc.) increases the maintenance factor by 15%. All aircraft leased out or offered for leasing/sell do not count!
And you don't have to contact the support, I'm the support (in this case) ;)

OK, thank you for your help . . .
. . . but I would like to ask you a little bit more complicated question now . . .
If I have 4 maintenance categories and the plane that is the 4th maintenance category leaves my fleet, are my maintenance costs reduced by 15% immediately. Maintenance by aircraft is charged once a day (is this correct???), so I would assume that the next time I am charged for maintenance for each aircraft, that it will be 15% less ???
Your Maintenance will be done when your Aircraft is on the Ground for more then 2 hrs. If your airplanes are flying the whole day from 0600 to midnight ....... then your Maintenance will be done in the time from Midnight till 0600 but it could be any time you planned for it in your schedule. As soon as the 4th category Aircraft is leaving your Fleet, Maintenance costs for every Aircraft will reduce by 15%. Think of it that way.... as soon as you get a 4th Category, your Maintenance costs will go up by 15% and as soon as the 4th category Aircraft leaves your costs will reduce by 15%.
