Myth of the century - lower popularity of CRJ 900 and CRJ1000 than CRJ700

I know this has been brought out before but I am amazed that it is still there. It is not big deal. But even SSJ and AN148 are updated. Both CRJ 900 and 1000 still has a lower popularity than the 700, and also embraer.

I don't mind regional planes having a lower popularity than narrow body. But at least please make the benchmark consistent...

Well, the differences of popularity between CRJ700 and CRJ900/1000 are indeed for real.

There are many passengers in the world who don't like flying in "thin", long tubes like the CRJ900/1000 very much and prefer i.e. the CRJ700 instead.

@tnyuen - but even lower popularity really doesn't matter much. I have done 702 km, 1371 km, and 2250 km comparison between 73G, CRJ700, CRJ1000 and E195, with roughly same config-wise (ratio FA, pitch,) in various Y and C configs, and the ORS ratings are 99% the same. Out of 100 rating tests (config/distance/price increase or discount and various service levels -3,4,5 bars) maybe 1 ORS rating is different (and by different I mean maybe 46/95 vs 47/96). So 1 out of 100 ... I really would NOT worry about it.

Yeah I am not worrying about it. Just curious about it :)

Is EMB195 thin too? (just curious, cause I live in a city where CRJ and EMB is too small for the routes). How about reducing the popularity of ALL regional jet so that narrow body and regional jets are having different popularity?

If that happens (lowering popularity of RJs) then you would need to reduce popularity of turboprops even further…

Why would popularity depend on the size of the plane? For me, I like comfort, speed, and safety.

Hi,

the same question was asked a few years ago. TimS (back then AS-team member) gave the same answer: because the CR9 looks likes a long thin tube. I found that reply rather amusing. After all, what plane does not look like a long thin tube ? From the outside, they are all long thin tubes. And from the inside, only wide bodies don't really look like long thin tubes.

But at the time, the CR9 (the CRJ 1000 was not yet on the market) was far more profitable than any other regional jet in the game. In my opinion - but that's just a guess - the game used the slightly lower passenger rating to compensate for it's fuel efficiency. But that's okay. You know the rating of the plane when you lease it, so you can take it into account.
