New Long-Term Game World in June: Help us Pick a Configuration!

Nah, we get the gist. And a purely poll-based config would likely not end up being a very good one, anyway.

One thing that wasn’t really part of the original post but would actually be an interesting option is a different data time, similar to what we had in our Wright game world a while ago or what the Historia exklusive game world currently does. I am mentioning this because many people seem to be interested in old/historic/not-the-latest aircraft types. But “just” generating a bunch of used ones at server start tends to fuel the very much unfortunate “grow at max within the first few weeks and dominate the server forever” pattern. Which, for a long-term game world, is even worse.

A data time offset might alleviate the issue to some extend. We’re also working on an ad hoc adjustment to aircraft prices in general, but that isn’t ready for primetime yet.

I prefer not having antiquated planes unless and until the price adjustments are made in place

I really like the idea of “Wright” as a long term game world. Starting in maybe 1970, one ingame year could equal one real life month. That would create a very dynamic world with newer aircrafts going into production and older types going out of production. That puts an emphasis on fleet planning over time with aging aircrafts becoming a potential problem because of high fuel and maintenance costs. That would also cover people wanting to play with older planes in general.
I don’t like used aircrafts as it only speeds up the growth potential and as Martin said, that is not good for a long term server.
Holdings should be limited to one per player as I don’t want one player to be all over the world with different airlines.
Demand should start low and increase over time to 100%, as every server does.
Single Slots and nighttime bans for the realism.
10 Million $ should be enough starting capital, especially with the older generation aircrafts being cheaper in leasing anyway

Looking forward to the game world anyway but hoping for the “Wright” approach

Having a long-term game world starting in the 1970s or 80s would be a dream come true. I think that could be extremely interesting and make for a fun „new“ concept. I‘d definitely support that idea!

Other points:

Starting capital: 20 mio
Holdings per account : 2
Slots: 100%
Night time bans: yes, keep it as realistic as possible
IPO: big yes imho, I‘ve always really missed that feature in new game worlds

Other than that: Anything to prevent airlines with hundreds of airplanes within a month would be huge.

Thanks for asking!

I’ll give two answers directly.
In fact, I would love to be able to start in the seventies.
Starting capital: max 10 mio

Hmh, nice idea @martin . If we start earlier e.g. in the 90th e.g. can you may accelerate the game in time? So, what I mean: In real time one day are e.g. three days simulated (or if it is better - 1 day in reality, it is 1 week in the game)? If this can be done, I think this would be worth for an “earlier start”.

Pro for this option: Everyone needs to plan strategically from the beginning and cannot “benefit” from previous servers.

Question: Would you have then also historical data for the routes? (like that at in 70th you could fly from FRA to e.g. Kabul -maybe I am wrong, but just for an example - but nowadays there is no flight?)

This would even be more interesting, as the game will change and players have to react.

IPÓs unbedingt wieder möglich machen
Gebraucht Flugzeug Markt ab Start

Make IPÓs absolutely possible again
Used aircraft market from the start

That’s the biggest issue with historic worlds: We don’t have historic data for anything but aircraft. Maybe fuel prices, but without the proper context, they don’t make all that much sense either (as the recent fuel prices woes have shown). So we can slowly crank up passenger demand over time, but we can’t change the general landscape, be that airports or political circumstances.

Probably shouldn’t have added those to the initial post. While technically an option (for exclusive game worlds, for example, that don’t require anti-cheat support), they won’t be coming back in public game worlds.

My opinion is as follows:
While the game cannot be real, it should be as similar as possible within the parameters of the game. Big airlines after a few weeks, I think it makes you lose interest in the game.

Initial capital: 10 million.
Slots: standard. Or if possible start at normal and increase it with time if necessary.
Used aircrafts: In or only those that are already on the market, from bankrupt companies.
Aircraft types: new and current market.
IPO: yes, but with an investment limit of 30% of the company
nightban: yes
Allowed holdings per account: one to a maximum of two.
In-game alliances: There should be some way that there should be some preference advantage in interlining with teammates.

Some will be impossible but…you never know…it’s hard to please Greeks and Trojans.

Initial capital: 10 to 20 mio.
Slots: double for long time
Used aircrafts: no or purchase limit of 1 per day
Aircraft types: new types desired
IPO: yes (if possible all countries open to investment)
Nightban: no
Allowed holdings per account: one

Another issue with historic worlds is that the usual 10M starting capital would enable players to lease way more capacity than usual, which would fuel the exponential growth faster, assuming costs are similarly scaled down.

Yeah, Freddy, what you mentioned tended to happen in Historia. The airlines, based on some numbers from the 70s (costs of inputs, mainly) and some numbers from the 21st century (as I am genuinely unsure of their age, or the age of their base data; i.e. default flight prices, staff costs, and current value of the A$S), grew exponentially quickly. The admins have been quite great in both regulating the historical events and demandstuffs (i.e. the demand slump in 1973 which did claw back the sizes a lot), but this is not coded into the game. They also take some cool and interesting approaches when it comes to pax rights and stuff to more realistic 70s levels as well as news and affairs in the game server.
I couldn’t play on it longer due to time, but I highly recommend anyone check out the project if they’re interested in something like this. The admins and players are a generally good bunch who really put their effort in this idea. Their info is a search away on the forums.

As for name shouts, I can give Malmi, a recently closed airport in Helsinki, or Caiari, closed a long long time ago in Brazil. Though I do quite like your shout of Yeouido.

I would have the Following ideas for the new server:

  • Starting capital 15 to max 20 mio $

  • Max 3 holdings possible

  • Allow copying of cabin and service layouts within a holding company

  • Allow to create own maintenance companies and build them with different hanger capacities

  • Build pax terminals not only by capacity, but also allow influence on different facilities like duty free, hotels etc. to increase their quality/rating

  • Allow seaplanes (Seastar, Otter etc) possibly helicopters, as there are div. airports without runways at AS

  • Investment open countries at least like PEARLS, better increase considerably to countries like South Sudan, Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Belize, Demrep.Congo, Congo, Fiji, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bahrain, Syria, Madagascar, Mauritius, Kiribati, Cape Verde, Palau, div. Caribbean island states, etc. etc.

  • Include new airports

  • Offer new transfer airports, especially in areas where small planes are in demand. Here as an example: Ternate (Indonesia) Kupang (Indonesia), Dili (Timor), Port Sudan (Sudan), Norman Wells (Canada), Thompsen YTH (Canada), Iqualit (Canada), Goose Bay (Canada), Inverness (UK), Kirkwall (UK), Scatsca (UK), Koror (Palau) etc. etc.

  • Used aircraft of all types are allowed, but for older types (like BAC 1-11, B 707, B727, IL 18, IL 62 or Tu 154) fuel and maintenance costs must be significantly higher. Also more bad impact on rating on the old types must be.

  • Adjust ORS, so that low-cost airlines only pay off with no service, poor cabin, poor maintenance (i.e. more often) and in the rating or ORS not only the price is decisive.

  • Stockmarket openning

These are just some ideas for the new server

  • Wasserflugzeuge (Seastar, Otter etc) ggf. Helikopter zulassen, da es div. Airports ohne Landebahnen bei AS gibt
  • Investitionsoffene Länder mind. Wie PEARLS, besser erheblich erhöhen um Länder wie Süd-Sudan, Mikronesien, Marschall Islands, Nauru, Vanuatu, Neukaledonien, Belize, Demrep.Kongo, Kongo, Fidschi, Malediven, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bahrain, Syrien, Madagaskar, Mauritius, Kiribati, Kap Verden, Palau, div. Karibik Inselstaaten, etc. etc.
  • Neue Flughäfen mit einstellen
  • Neue Transferflughäfen anbieten, gerade solche Gegenden wo kleine Flieger gefragt sind. Hier als Beispiel: Ternate (Indonesien) Kupang (Indonesien), Dili (Timor), Port Sudan (Sudan), Norman Wells (Kanada), Thompsen YTH (Kanada), Iqualit (Kanada), Goose Bay (Kanada), Inverness (UK), Kirkwall (UK), Scatsca (UK), Koror (Palau) etc. etc.

Like what Sky1995 says @martin could a monopoly rule be put in place on 8 bar + airports?
i would make that 50% and on 7 bar airports, this will make airlines make multiple hubs like in the real world. Even a dutch airline would need to expand beyond Amsterdam,

Also a prefered interline (per airport) with airlines in the same holding allowing regional airlines to be more exclusive. CODE SHARE?

but what do we do when we catch up with today, we go into the future? Time acceleration is not a good idea for a long term world

If it is possible, you could just slow down the game world when it has cought up with today
Otherwise i do not see that much of a problem with a sped up game world. It would actually force you to renew aircraft instead of buying them and then never having to worry about it for the next 5 real life years.

Keep in mind that “time progression” only affects available types and the little other data we got that has date information (like fuel prices) but not the actual progression of time in the game. Meaning, for example, that planes aren’t written off faster or anything. It’s a bit weird, but current-gen AirlineSim wasn’t built with time progression in mind…the features we got are grafted on.

Didn’t aircraft also age faster on Wright though?

But for me i would not matter anyway. I just would like to have a more dynamic world that is not pretty much stuck at the same spot after about one year. Rerunning the real time line would definitely contribute to this.

One feature that would be nice is the ability to move leased aircraft and money to sub-airlines, This would allow more experimenting on new markets.

Also column 1 open investments would be nice again.

Freedom rights like emirates and singapore airlines have in Europe. Singapore SIN-FRA-JFK (All loadable pax) Emirates DXB-MXP-JFK and there are more. Can we implement some of these.
Qantas SYD-SIN-LHR is another Freedom rights today are not possible in the game
