So concorde is unavailable in the game because it no longer flies. But how about those new supersonic aircrafts like the one by Boom Technology that just appear in the news? Although I am personally a bit skeptcial about their plan and the planned launch time but the plan was to carry out first commercial flight in year 2023. And there are also other similar development.
When it(if?) enters commercial service, it's likely to be implemented in AS.
But the amount that it will cost though probably no one will be able to afford it without destroying their airline's income
What I mean by saying include new supersonic aircraft into the game is not just simply put that into the game and call it a day, instead I am also talking about the modification of in-game mechanics to make their economy and performance match the real life scenario. Hopefully it will become much easier with the upcoming implementation of different passenger types. Virgin claim their aircraft can allow airlines provide supersonic round trip ticket at a price of nowadays business class product, e.g. about $5000 on London - New York route. Although we have to wait till the aircraft come out to see can it really deliver this promise and what this price tag mean for travellers but that is something need to be considered if supersonic aircrafts are to be added to airlinesim
This aircraft has been around the news for atleast a year now on the what I would call "better" aviation new sites but Airways Magazine recently did an Interview with the CEO of Boom Technologies. Even The Guardian did wrote an article early this spring. Though in my opinion it is just a bunch of rubbish and to anyone who has been around the Aerospace world for a couple of years will know that theese supersonic ideas pop up every five years and disappear as fast as they came. I belive that as long as it is not backed by either a large Aerospace company or a government the ideas will ultimately fail. When other large already established companies try to enter the aerospace market with props or small jets fail how would then not a startup fail? Personally I think it is a great idea but I am very uncertain if it would ever exist.
Not having flown the Concorde and not even being born while it was in it´s grace, I have mostly gotten to know a dirty, loud and dangerous Concorde through my early childhood and I would love to fly this beauty so count me in within the first flights if it will fly. Not that I in anyway like NYC and want to be there but there are nicer places in the area like DC, honestly NYC is only disappointing me.
As much as I would like to see it flying, I doubt that they will succeed, and definitely not in the timeframe indicated. There is no commercially available suitable engine. And without that, there’s no airplane.
Which company would invest a good billion in the prospect of selling 100 or maybe 200 engines? That’s a hard business case to justify and it will take time to develop.
I think with the addition of “urgent” passengers, Supersonic aircrafts make even more sense, specially for those who want to operate as a supersonic airline which is meant specially for those in a rush
