Passenger terminal vs. MCT and transferring

Hi guys,

First of all, thanks for all the efforts to develop Airline Sim. It is great.

I was wondering about extending a bit profits coming from building the pax terminal (which is not so cheap and pays back in a huuge time). Of course, keeping the airport data realistic, perhaps it would be possible to build a brand new terminal on airport that does not allow tranfer originally with additionally paid option to enable transfers (by building airside bridges etc. so this remains pretty realistic).

Another option would be to create such a terminal that allows to decrease the MCT (minimum connecting time). For instance, for the airport that currently has 1:30 MCT, decrease it to 1:00 in this particular terminal would cost extra 20% and to 00:45 extra 40%).

I am happy to start the discussion,

I would say... For the modern airport MCT even 1:00 h - that's a lot! ))) Average todays - DI / ID (domestic-international and international-domestic) – 45 min, DD/II – 35-40 min.

Probably most large airports today are having shorter transfer and turnaround time because they have to handle lots of aircraft.

Depends - as always - on the airports and the infrastructure of course. In general the transfer time is longer if you have to switch the terminal building. We have some ideas on that in our mid term development but we do not have a detailed concept at this stage.

Not only that. Thinking it’s not so important. IATA has developed recommendations MCT, but today the Airlines set individual MCT for own flights. For example, in Domodedovo S7 Airlines and Transaero (both basic Airlines) have the different MCT even within the same terminal.

But  I don’t understand the other thing: why in AS is not all airports have flights connect possibility? Any Airline has the right to connect any of own flights in any airport. Flight connecting possibility is not dependent on the airport's infrastructure. This possibility depends on the  Departure Control System, which Airline applies for transmit PNL (passenger name lists) for airport check-in services.

In AirlineSim it's primarily performance reasons: With transfers possible at all airports, too many connections would be generated.

But we are rethinking the current model of how transfers right now. No concrete plans though.

In my opinion the passengers generation system ( including the reservation system) should be out into separate systems and based on individual server.

Good to hear. Like said before, there are (big) airlines/hubs that offer much shorter connection time then 1.5 hours. E.g. Amsterdam Schiphol and KLM offer connections (Europe-Europe and Europe-intercontinental vs) of 40-50 minutes. It would be great if you could invest in a homebase "upgrade" that shortens your connections. But this would only be liable if the ORS gives you a higher rating if your MCT is shorter then the competition (don't know if this is the case right now?).

Edit/note: I do think that it should reflect the real world. E.g. LHR generates longer MCT then AMS.
