Hi, we have some new releases comming up- the cs100, 787-900 a350 etc.
I think we should be able to pre-order these aircraft. Airlines get huge discount for doing this. I would think we should be able to make a pre-order and get a discount of 25%.
If you can pre-order and the discount is not so great it will not be worth while as I can just wait until there are some on the market and buy them with a discount of there.
Discount? Why would you get a "discount" for a new plane? That would mean the companies building the aircraft would make a massive loss.

because the cost to produce a plane ist maybe ... 100M, they sold it for 150M ....if you preorder, you get it for 130M ... they still earn 30M; but they make the offer more attractive.
The thought of massive airlines creating monopolys of new planes doesn't sound too attractive, especially for the people who can't afford them. We've already seen what can happen with the Q400a

the big discounts are for launch costumers and the first clients for several reasons:
These clients are buying several years in advance a product, which exists only on paper. The clients takes a risk and get a discount for this
These clients have to take into consideration, that the product maybe delayed.
These clients will see several technical issues during the first year of service.
translated into AS: you could get an heavy discount, but you have to pay a down payment now,
the EIS maybe delayed randomly by six month up to two years, and during the first year of service, you have to struggle with random cancellations (lets say 5%) and you have to pay a very high maintenance fee
I'd be fine with that system, as long as it's randomly generated
Perhaps it could be delayed to coincide with the actual entry date of the real plane. That would add a true unknown variable to the transaction for the purchaser.
Having said that, I am perfectly happy with the current system.
I think that would be a great option.

That's not true. There are plenty of suggestions already implememented. But this is a discussion forums to discuss about ideas and suggestions. So we are reading this too.

Discounts on aircraft purchases in reality are not limited to pre-orders and are very similar to the discounts for current airline models. In AirlineSim there is no discount except of a discount for large order which is 1% per 10 aircraft IIRC.
The other point:
Pre-order are not necessary as we have a order list based on an account. This means if you order it 4 month ahead or on the day it will be available, it doesn't make any difference in AirlineSim. Pre order would only block equity.
Thanks for your explanation, sk. It seems reasonable to me. I also disagree with the statement that suggestions never get implemented.
To be honest I think you also have to look at how "useful" this would actually be. Very few airlines within AS actually own brand new aircraft, and those that do would not be happy investing $100mil AS away for months at a time just to recieve a discount

Just because all of the "big" suggestions such as this one are not implemented doesnt mean nothing we suggest happens. There are a lot of small ideas passed around that get put in the game. If I am not mistaken the route map was suggested. I also beleive the aircraft auction was suggested. Not to mention the suggestion for having a server based in the glory days of aviation, which is being worked on now.

I understand why pre-orders cannot be done, but I still wish we could. I would love to place an order for the C-Series right now, and be in a waiting cue. Maybe one day in the future.

The entire fleet got mad when they saw your post! :blush: ;) . It took hours to assure every single Mad Dog, that I wil retain them despite my plan to introduce the CSeries one day :wub: . All MD-80s accepted my apology and clarification as well as my kisses on each nose and they went to work as usual ;) .
You are aware that if the day comes when you retire the MD-80 and replace them with the C-Series then you will have to put the MD's in aviation paradise .... so no scapyard, no desert parking .... they like shiny looks, chromed Inlets, Demo shows in Oshkosh etc ;) and when the C- Series sees this ...... :P

FYI, launch orders are usually cheaper because they include aircraft not running on optimal performance.
However, the main discounts are given on aircraft which are used as part of the testing phase. These are usually heavier and not as economical.
There is no need for this feature in AS. the discounts given already are plenty, and you can often get a good deal on the market.
