i have a suggestion which could make the Airplane Ordering system a little more realistic.
like it is in the real world, there are order lists for each manufacturer and each model because there manufacturing line has only a certain amount of planes it can produce per week. Unlike it is at the moment in AS where every company can order and will get them on their own queue as soon as the building time is over.
Also the financing of the plan could get a new option: pay a fee on order which is maybe 10% or 20% of the total price and pay the rest when the plane is due to be delivered. This would give the players the option to bargain with their slots.
for example Airline A ordered an A320-200 which is due to be delivered on the 20th of September but the player might not have the Money to pay the part due on delivery, he could offer Airline B his earlier slot against their later one because airline B would like to have their plane a few days earlier. If they don't trade their slot and don't have the money when the plane is due to be delivered they loose the 10% or 20% of the total price which was payed upfront and get a fine which will be raised for every time it this happens.
Of course there should be the option to pay the whole price at ones upfront as well, which can have the advantage that those orders will fill the holes in the queue that appear if someone fails to take over their ordered plane or if another Airline is deleted and still holds orders further upfront in the queue.
This would also give Airline Managers another chance of miscalculating and running their Company in to bankruptcy :)
I believe this could have a few advantages:
1. the growth of airlines in the beginning would be limited to the production limits of the manufacturers
2. Airplanes which are not so popular at the moment might become a little more Interesting, because in time where the AGEX is strong the wait time might be significantly smaller compared to the more popular planes
3. there is a new way of going bankrupt :)
4. another aspect in the game for players to interact and or do business with (trading delivery slots)
on the down side, it would add a little more complexity to the game
Major china player wants to eliminate all new competition, and another player has gone bankrupt. Orders 200 aircrafts, and just cancel it after he recieves it.Cheap way to eliminate competition.
Scenario 2:
I have a big cargo company. I can currently afford to order 550 ATR-72-500F. I order them, and noone else can order it them for the next year. I win.
Edit: If I only have to pay 10% right now, I cannot afford to order 5500!
There was such a suggestion some time ago and I posted a reply. I will try to look it up.
It nails down to;
AS is on real time, while some other sims that have "single order line" are on accelerated time, where 1 day is 15 minutes, so a week is 105 minutes. Imagine production line of 3 per week, that is 41 in real 24 hours. While this might curb some fast growth in the beginning with 1000+players, at later stages where there are 200-300 players, I would just order 100 planes and have them delivered in less than 3 real days (while currently it would be 80 days).
We had this system (one queue for all) and even paying on delivery. Both were not working as this had lead to long waiting times and blocked delivery positions.
On stapleton a player put an order in 2014 for Tu-204s and it has since then been backloged to summer 2017. So if I want to use the aircraft I can´t whit the order system you are proposing I can´t.
well thats basically what i was aiming for, if someone orders a lot of planes at ones the next player might be more willing to order a different kind. it would spread new orders more equal over the remaining manufacturers no one usually orders.
Also the mentioned blocking of delivery slots, in real life the manufacturer and the airline agree on when they will deliver and in which order. just because EK orders 90x A380 doesn't mean that they will get all 90 of them in a row with out any other airline getting any in-between. Maybe this could be fixed with a top of delivery limit for each holding / airline, this max per day delivery per airline and plane model could remain at the same rate as today. This way the overly large growth could be taken care of.
Also the mentioned scenario that someone orders 200 planes then deletes can be fixed the way it is now that these planes go the used Aircraft's marked.
It will become very frustrating when you want to grow fast and cannot acquire the model you want because of long delivery line, plus I would like to spend my AS time scheduling more planes rather than bargaining with manufacturers.
I agree it would be nice, and make the game more realistic. It would add another level of complexity
It would get boring and only few would profit. One of the reasons I stopped playing the "other sim" few years back was that the big guys flooded the production lines because they knew the "limits" of when and where to order. Myself and many others were stuck using 737 classics well into 2020's simply because there was no place in any production line. In the end, it made that sim boring because it was heavily tilted towards the "pros" who just knew the "right moment" for ordering and for fleet changes.
A single order line would actually make it even more unfriendly towards the new players, and it would benefit the heavy users / pros who would also know when/where to start ordering planes. It would be a very counterproductive move. A bit more realistic - yes, playability enhancing - no.
and make a leasing company a more viable option.
You already got the aircraft leased via leasing company, so I don't know what you are talking about. If you mean to say that leasing companies would work through used market - the again, big players with a fat bank account would take anything that comes on the UM the moment it gets there. Again, in prejudice of smaller players or not so professional AS players.
All sims get boring. This game is, and it needs new challenges.

There is little to no reason for a player to open a leasing company and lease new aircraft, since there is no waiting for one from the builder. Being able to open a leasing company and lease out new aircraft would add complexity to a very easy game. As it is now, the only reason to have a leasing company is to buy out of production aircraft that are still in demand, such as the 757 freighter. Those aircraft are few and far between.

This. The last thing we need in this game is something that increases the huge gap between new and established players even more than what it already is.

New things are coming. Delays and variable turnaround will be a base for creating LCC model based on utilization (average aircraft utilization will most likely go down with the new dynamic turnaround times).
Engine performance system is in the works... that will make for some interesting options for aircraft and engine combinations.
If you are bored, there are several things you can do:
- start a challenge in some 3rd world investment open country, preferably in Africa
- start a cargo operation
- give your airline a life - press releases, brochures, twitter account, etc.
- open a second holding and take on an established airline ... even better ... compete with yourself and try to take yourself down with the new airline!

Then these aircraft would end up on the second hand market available to all users. So no disadvantage at all. It would be, if the user keeps the aircraft unused.
It can't be offered at the used market afterwards as this would be used by players to build up dummy-airlines to have aircraft blocked and offered they like to have them offered.
