Transfer time not realistic?

Why is the transfer time so long compared to the real world? Atlanta has 35min minimun connection time time for domestic-domestic, yet in AS it is 1:30?

I think this may have been discussed before, it may be worth searching the forum.

From memory, the argument is as follows: the arrival time is when your aircraft hits the runway, the departure time when it takes off from the runway. So the 1:30 include 2x taxi, leaving the plane and boarding again. Easy to see how these can take up an hour at a big airport.

It’s mostly because AS uses broad-stroke standard values based on airport size, which is also just a broad categorisation. As you already mentioned, the 35 min in ATL are for domestic-to-domestic. Transfer times vary widely between type of connection, size and technological equipment of the respective airport, amount of and connection between terminals and even airlines. Add to that that our transfer times were likely researched about 15 to 20 years ago. Since then, airports and airlines have progressed dramatically.
