by the way, back to the topic specifically of Iran-Saudi traffic, my relatively young airline on Croydon (70 planes, focusing fully on domestic plus connections to neighboring countries like UAE, Egypt) can't seem to get any decent business going to Teheran, despite having IL with the local powerhouse. So there's no ban, but I guess IRL there wasn't much going on before the ban in the first place...
IRL the region is complicated...
- The Wikipedia article about the Saudi-Iran relations explains a bit in terms of understanding the political dynamics: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran%E2%80%93Saudi_Arabia_relations
- This article here http://traveltips.usatoday.com/travel-iran-saudi-arabia-36054.html (dated 14 MAR 2011) states "...as direct flights between Iran and Saudi Arabia are a rarity, and you will most likely connect through Kuwait, Bahrain or Dubai."
- To my understanding, most flights between Iran and Saudi-Arabia (before the recent ban) were Hajj flights - which essentially means charter flights. Those aren't (so is my understanding of AS) not part of the demand calculation.
- Looking at tha IKA airport page http://ikia.airport.ir/
(you may need Google Translate for this - or read instead the airport’s English Wikipedia article here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tehran_Imam_Khomeini_International_Airport ) shows no flights to Cairo. However, you should be able to get some bookings for Dubai.
Quite a challenge to create some traffic there... Good luck! :)
