Turbopros, seating, ORS

It is a stated facts that turboprops cannot achieve ORS of more than 92.

If I am competing on a route, myself turboprop, competitor has jet.

His ORS rating is 95, for example, with a 737.

IS THERE ANY POINT to have better seating/onboard service on my turboprop if all I can get is just 92?

Imagine there are only two of us.

As mentioned, he has ORS rating of 95 with his 737.

My ATR gets 64 with Standard, 86 with Economy, and 89 with EcoPlus seating, all with default pricing and 4* (4bar) onboard service in economy.

Is there any need, for me at all, to use better seating ad onboard service if I cannot surpass the ORS rating of 92?

Given that his 737 will take larger proportional share of pax because of his higher ORS jet rating, wouldn't I take myself the same X amount of pax regardless whether my ORS is 89 (Ecoplus) or 64 (standard)?

IN OTHER WORDS, If I have no chance to come first in ORS by the fact of using a turboprop vs a jet, isn't it then better to have the lowest cost possible (cheaper seats, cheaper service)?

When I come second in ORS, is there any difference to be second by having 86, or by having 64 ORS?

*edited: I initially stated his ORS was 92, his ORS is 95, I got confused my mixing two ORSes, the 92 ORS value is the max value for turboprop.

Cheaper service does not get you a better ORS. It works in real-life too.

A cheaper ticket (at the same level of service) will get you better ORS.

For example, Ryanair = EasyJet. You pick one over the other with price.

Likewise, American = Delta for a non-stop flight between Atlanta and Dallas. The service levels are basically identical.

Would you fly Ryanair to save $5? Probably not, likewise in-game. It is a balancing act. I fly Eco+ domestic and charge 30% above default and I have a 91% capacity factor.

P.S If your ORS rating is 99/100, then lowering your price will not get you any more passengers on that itinerary (ATL-DFW), but it may get you a passenger on the ATL-DFW-BOI itinerary (assuming there is no ATL-BOI non-stop)

Thank you for your input dalexan, but you did not understand my question at all.

Turboprops cannot pass ORS rating of 92. Even if you put first class suite for economy passengers and 5* service you will not pass 92 in ORS.

Jets go to ORS 99 and some as high as 100.

Because I use turboprop on a certain route and my competitor uses jet, he has an ORS rating I cannot ever reach with a truboprop.

My question was whether under such circumstances its worth to offer better seating on truboprop (such as Economy vs standard) if I can never reach his ORS rating on that route for as long as I use turboprop. The second part of question was whether under the above given circumstance I would get same pax demand by using cheap service and better service (e.g. having ORS of 64 vs 86). Remember, under the above stated circumstances I come second in ORS, it is just case of:

Case a )

my competitor - JET - ORS 95

myself - ATR - ORS 86

vs

Case b )

my competitor - JET - ORS 92

myself - ATR - ORS 64

woudl I get same pax being second with ORS 86 as I would get being second with ORS 64?

Hi,

it depends on offer and demand on that route. On a new server you can get full planes with an ORS rating of 1  ;-)

Most routes have more than two possible connections if you include transfer flights. And an ORS rating of 64 is about the rating of a connecting flight. So your direct A-B flight would get as much passengers as an airline who flies A-X-B.

You can test it without changing seats... increase your ticket prices until your rating drops to 64 and check your load factors.
