Unrealistic turnaround time

HI,

In general, I think that the new turnaround time feature is great.

However, the turnaround times are grossly unrealistic. See the attached picture. This is a EMB190 turning around at an outstation after about a 1 hour flight. What forms the critical path in the turnaround time is the unloading and loading of catering.

In reality, the catering would be done at the hub for both directions, so no catering unloading/loading would even take place.

But more importantly, even if it was done during this turnaround, there is no way it would take a total of 38 minutes just to unload/load catering. In reality this is done on widebodies in about 10-20 minutes tops, a regional jet like a EMB190 in question here would take 10 minutes at the most, more likely it would be done in little over 5. Also the time it takes to unload/load cargo/baggage seems a bit long.

Also, isn't the scheduled departure times we have the time that the airscraft leaves the gate. So shouldn't taxi in / taxi out rather be part of the flight time.

So I suggest, that you further develop the turnaround feature to:

  • Be more realistic in terms of time needed to complete the tasks
  • Allow for return leg catering to be done at the hub provided that the catering is not too complex.

Quick answer because I don't have a lot of time and most of your questions have been answered plenty of times before already:

  • Catering time: This hugely depends on what kind of catering you offer and how many classes you have. Offer less and it takes less time. We will further improve the formulas though should we get more reliable base data.
  • Catering at hub: Turnaround activities for several flights at once are not possible with the current system right now and it would make scheduling an even more complex affair than it already is.
  • Taxi time: This is part of the TA in AirlineSim to avoid slot issues when TA times change (which happens often and easily). Already discussed plenty of times before though.

You must be offering a lot of catering, my loading and unloading on takes half a long.

I don't consider what I offer very excessive as far as catering is concerned. I don't know how to attach a screenshot in a reply, but basically it's a two class service profile aimed at sub 800 km routes which means that there is nothing there that would require a longer flight distance.

Go to more reply options in the bottom right corner and scroll down and attach the screenshot.

OK Here is the catering that I offer.

The reason I feel it is not that intense, is that it is the lowest I was able to figure out that produces a three bar rating for under 800 km flights.

Still more on this topic.

This is a B737 turnaround after a three class long haul catering with pretty much all the bells and whistles that are available to ensure good onboard service.

Only slightly more passengers, 101 on the B737 against 96 on the Embraer.

Yet the B737 turns catering around in 24 mins against the 38 mins it takes to turnaround the Embraer with less passengers and less catering.

I do find this odd...1967

Yes, a known fact (bug?). This is because the second catering vehicle is being used, from certain threshold onward based on the number of catering carts involved to carry your service profile/pax.

So does that mean, that I would be able to shorten the time it takes to handle the catering by adding more things to the menu ? If there are thing like that in the software, wouldn't it make more sense to be able add the second catering vehicle for some added charge to speed up the turnaround time ?
