On Quimby with a fleet of 6-8 planes it's near impossible to compete with those who buy ~30 727s, why are these so cheap?..
5 times cheaper than the A319 with the same capacity.

Look at their passenger popularity....
They are cheap because they guzzle fuel. You may not be able to compete now, but hang in there. Once demand starts being met, the load factor will swing into the favor of airlines that provide good service (on modern planes). I've considered making a 727 based airline on Quimby just as a throwback type thing, but I don't have the time so I deleted it
Quimby isn't about competition. It's about giving new players the opportunity to build their airlines and learn the system without having such strong competition that forces them to fail, and causes so many people to leave.
I'm treating Quimby more on how the new pricing structure will work.
yes true

So I have a fleet of almost 70 aircraft on Quimby now (I've played on several other servers as well). I have three aircraft I operate right now:
IL-18
IL-62
DC-8
The IL-62 guzzles fuel like no one's business, and costs a ton to maintain, but the deposit is only $325k and the lease is only $32,500. The IL-18 has a -4 public image, but costs only $42,500 on deposit, and $4,250 in lease payments. Similar story with the DC-8
Here's the thing though. I'm able to fill up my planes right now, I'm second at my hub with about 650 departures, and I'm running a margin of almost 40% for the whole enterprise. That's insane.
I have to flip all those into modern aircraft before they come back to bite me, and during that time I'll be operating 4-5 aircraft maintenance categories as well. The IL-18's will be converted to B737-300's and -600's, the IL-62's will be converted to B737-900's and the DC-8s will be converted to B787's.
Right now I have about $17.2 million in deposits, but the full switch over will cost me $223 million in deposits. In other words, for about two months during the switch over my airline will be very vulnerable. That's the risk of running the plan these airlines are running. I'm actually already starting to switch this week. I decided to swap out the IL-62's first, because their cost to maintain in fuel and maintenance is highest per seat. That's going to cost me a cool $80 million just in deposits.
Focus on your plan, expand as you can, and you'll be just as well positioned as they are.

With that many flights and at that margin you are surely making alot of gross income (I mean turnover minus installments/expenses but plus security on new leases) though?
For me, a good week is being able to get 2-3 new planes let alone 70 :(

Well at less than $200k fully outfitted, I could get a LOT of IL-18s. It took about 3 weeks to get to 70.
My gross was about... $8.4 million last week, and it should be about $20 million this week.
