With the 6.3 implementation on Thursday, will the new Dynamic Turnaround Times influence current schedules in any way? For example, is it possible that maintenance ratio’s are “damaged” because the turnaroud time is increased with just a few minutes? Or is the current turnaround time the “longest possible” and can it only change in a positive way?
Just making sure so I don’t have to check/correct 1.500 aircraft schedules on thursday
In case you’ve been worried about the effects of this update on existing game worlds: All legacy game worlds will be patched with the new version, but all turnarounds will consist of a single dummy activity which simply uses the static turnaround times in use today. Random factors will stay disabled. This way you can only cause delays manually by planning overlaps in your flight plans but you will never be confronted with automatic changes, for example after installing a different cabin layout or changing catering options. At a later point, when the new system has matured, we might decide to introduce it in old game worlds. But that’s something we’ll decide when the time comes.
Your current turnaround times would most likely (like 0.999999 probability) not fit with the new dynamic turnaround times. For exactly that reason, as Spezialist wrote, dynamic turnaround times will be implemented only in the new world that starts on Thursday. Existing worlds will get a static placeholder for dynamic turnaround times equal to the current turnaround times that depend on airport and aircraft used. Your scheduling screen will look like the new one displayed in the video, though.
Thanks, I missed the news item, only watched the video hence the question.
Would be nice if the new features will at some point be introduced into existing game worlds, if negative effects on schedules can be minimized. Will await maturing of the system.

Very, very difficult. The new DTA will substantially lower aircraft utilization factor for full service airlines (think of it this way: it will be substantially more difficult to achieve utilization in the 100% MX ratio and schedule for tight waves at the same time), so unless you would want to suddenly become ULCC carrier overnight, this is a very daunting task to achieve.
The new DTA model, as demonstarted on the video, will allow you to focus on
- either a premium service at the expense of lower aircraft utilization (thus having higher per trip costs)
- or low cost service with benefit of higher aircraft utilizatio but at the expense of premium onboard product (thus having lower per trip cost).
You will basically need to decide if you are going to have good product and charge more but utilize your aircraft on fewer flights per day, or have a spartan onboard product (affecting your ratings) thus having to charge less, but being able to utilize aircraft on more flights per day.
Also you will need to make certain tradeoff decisions between scheduling for perfect waves or having low MX ratio (higher aircraft utilization).
All of this should lead to a (desired) effect on slowing the fast growth of the airlines especially during the first several months.
Actually i don't understand that part. So if the DTA will not be applied to current game worlds, will the interface of scheduling change? We can't just have an interface, right?

There will be a new interface and new static delays (delays which you can program yourself).
In order to implement (static) delays into legacy worlds, there is a need for a new interface so you see if there are any overlaps.
Now back to implementing DTA into legacy worlds. Aircraft utilization is just one thing that would be affected. Imagine that you want to keep your service level, and are willing to forfeit some aircraft utilization. Very well. But in order to keep your service level, you have to change departure of the next flight, or run a 25 minute delay which would make your flight unpopular, severely affect your airline image, and you would have to pay a substantial penalty which would eat up your whole profit and maybe even put you in the red numbers. So you decide to schedule next flights 30 minutes later... or 35 ... or 40 ... Whoops... there are no slots available anywhere around your needed flight time. Now there are some slots available 3 hours away, rendering your whole schedule completely useless. So to fit your current slots, you would be stuck with maybe no service, no cargo and remote stand for boarding... say bye bye to your airline as you know it. And we have hit the home run.
My play on the phone is limited to just general browsing on the game world and the forums. I cannot imagine full play on the phone ... maybe on a large tablet with a keyboard, but not on the phone.
@rubio currently I’ve become quite efficient playing on my phone (but then again I’ve been using it since march). And hopefully the new interface isn’t to much of a difference. As I really like the game.
@cbe at first it was a pain to schedule planes but then again I haven’t had the pleasure to attempt more than 5 at any one time.
As long as the new scheduling is like the ticket pricing (sliders w/amount boxes) I should be able to try it without any problems.
I usually work with multiple tabs open, and ferquenly use "open in new tab" browser feature. This is just a main reaosn why I hate playing on the phone ... no easy way to switch among tabs.
Do you know that you can just hold your mouse over what you want to open and click the scrolling wheel on your mouse and the new tab opens. This way there is no need to left click and choose in the menu.

well, I just learned something new ;)
I've been doing the right click routine for years.
But going back to the discussion, I do sometimes play on the phone or tablet when I don't have access to a computer and need to check or adjust something. It's quite remarkable in fact just how user-friendly this interface is, no matter what device you are using, it adapts to your screen resolution quite smoothly! :D
Of course, for major changes, like transferring or coordinating schedules between aircrafts, a laptop is still way better, but for small adjustments it's quite good.
