Addition of Concorde in Manufacturers List

Isn’t it possible to bring back a supersonic marvel. This may be because I want to see Concorde fly again, but I think it would be good to put those 14 production concordes in the game.

If you can convince someone to purchase them in real life and bringing them back in air - no problem …

(At The time) Other major Airlines did want to buy Concorde but Airbus which acquired the design right wouldn’t allow British Airways or Air France to sell them.

Just because I’m curios, do you have any sources for this?

I think it was not that Airbus forbade them to sell the Concordes (how could they ??), but instead decided to no longer supply maintenance and replacements parts.

CNN

I got that statement from A book which I have read, titled ‘The Concorde Story’ but I lent it to a friend so when I get it I will type out the part which states that.

I guess you will find a point there too about the fuel efficiency ;)

On this basis we should see lots of “retro” aircraft available in the game, but I don’t think it’s realistic to have have aircraft in game which are now consigned to museums. I think, as a rule, that like with new aircraft only becoming available when in commercial service, older aircraft should be removed from ingame after leaving commercial service. Alternatively, and I think this may have been suggested before, you could have a “retro server” based on the 60’s and 70’s where you can have as many BAC1-11’s, Hawker Siddley Tridents, Vickers Armstrong VC10’s and the like that you want.

I got back the book and I will write a few quotes, displaying the good and bad of Concorde.

Quotes from The Concorde Story by Peter R. March

"Despite the inherent problems of Concorde, posed by the fact at it was an SST, and including such items as engine noise, sonic boom, fuel consumption and cost, there was initially considerable interest in the aircraft and its earth-shrinking potential for business and VIP Travel. A significant number of world airlines including, Air Canada, Air France, American Airlines, BOAC, Eastern Air Lines, QANTAS, Sabena, TWA and United Air Lines were all seriously looking at ordering Concorde."

“The cost of getting Concorde to Cruise at Mach 2 was high. The Olympus engines were not only noises but fuel thirsty. Fuel crisis across the decades served to put up the cost of operating the airliner and played into the hands of the environmental lobby. Then there was the sonic boom. As an aircraft passes Mach 1 it creates a shock wave that reaches the ground as a loud double ‘boom’. Governments around the world banned Concorde from exceeding the speed of sound over their land”

"British Airways said firmly that its seven Concordes were not for sale since Airbus, the Successor to the joint Anglo-French manufacturers, would not allow any other airline than British Airways and Air France operate this prestigious plane."

I will now state a few more quotes by other people.

" I feel safer on Concorde than I do driving on the M3. It is a Huge, gas-guzzling machine and yet it’s beautiful." by Gordon Summer, better known as Sting

" I believe that every effort should be made to keep Concorde flying as it is such an important symbol of British Innovation." by Sir Richard Branson

" Concorde will never really stop flying because it will live on in people’s imagination." by Air France Chairman Jen Cyril Spinetta.

These last two are the most important:

" For Guys like me who were then ten years old or so when they first saw the pristine white needle streak across the sky, first heard the tremendously powerful engines roar, it will be the end of an era in aviation, the end of a dream and the realization that, with every passing day, many such dream fade into the dim, if not cherished memories." by Peter Combs

" Concorde was born from dreams, built and operated with pride. Concorde has become a legend today." by Captain Mike Bannister, speaking to the passengers aboard the last scheduled flight from Jew York to Heathrow.

Indeed a good idea to setup a retro server…

That would be interesting indeed.

Oh man, retro server would be a dream come true :)

By the way, why not finish some of the old and not very active servers and start a couple new? Meigs and Pearls are great successes, always full and pretty much impossible for anyone new to get on them.

Would be great to see but I highly doubt it (in real life and here).

DC-3 is still in operation …

I’d love to run an airline on a retro server. L188’s C340’s DC6’ and DC3’s

We too ;)

Same here. Bring back he Connie!!!

it and other old classics could be added but it would cost a lot to do repairs on it.

Not really, the staff was cheaper and part are available, its the 60’s so all is there!

Yessss !

No modern plane has the beauty of a Connie. Just like no modern plane has the charm of a Dakota. And no modern plane produces the lovely sound of a big radial engine.

If you ever launch a "classic" game server, please include the Bristol 170 and the Carvair. As a kid I took my bycicle and watched these birds at Ostend airport. In those days, there was a terrace on the tarmac, so you could watch the planes from 10 or 20 meters away and be amazed by the loud rumbling engines
