AS Holding ist actually buying stocks?!

I just found, that the AS Holding holds several shares in different companys in Gatow. This is of course the AS Bank and the Aircraft Trade an leasing company, but there are others that are not admin companys and actually have their own fleet and participate in the game.

Can anyone explain to me, how this is possible and what is the reason for this?

When a company goes bankrupt but holds shares in other companies, those shares are picked up by the AS Holding and offered for sale at current market price.
