Sorry if this has already been covered, but I've searched the forum and can't find a mention of it.
Does having a cargo centre make my airline more attractive for freight shippers? I notice in the "Flight Ratings" section of each flight that in the field marked "Terminals", my cargo doesn't have any rating.
I have both cargo and passenger terminals. My cargo terminals have more capacity than my passenger ones.
I thought that at one time, having a cargo terminal increased your desirability for freight. Is this still the case (or even; was this ever the case, or did I imagine it)?
Any thoughts or ideas on this would be appreciated. I'm not too concerned about it, just a bit flummoxed.
A pallet of cargo doesn't care if it sits in an air-conditioned warehouse with marble floors or an open-air shack with concrete floor. Sometimes the contents of the pallet may want the air conditioning though.
Having the cargo terminal just saves you the AS$25/unit fee, so you could theoretically charge AS$25 less if you wanted to, which would make your service more attractive.
I did assign a cargo contract for the flight. It shows up on my financial breakdown for the flight. Thanks for the thought though.
I agree that cargo shouldn't really care whether it's in a shack or a marble hall. However, the pallets of cargo do seem to prefer dedicated freighters over PAX planes.
I never thought about certain types of cargo needing climate control. That's a good point Kenmuir.
my flights using a cargo terminal don't get a higher rating either. Like Kenmuir said, cargo doesn't care about terminals. Which is a bit strange, for the cargo pallets do care about your planes and the staff mood ;-)
But then again, economy passengers are not impressed by terminals either. If you own a terminal, business ratings jump up by about 10 points in the ORS ratings. Economy ratings go up by one point or so.
