Dev Log Week 2024-26: Day to day

Week 26 started in a quite unusual fashion in that I had several calls with third-parties about potential cooperations. Nothing I can share about those yet, though

Then I had to do something we actually haven’t had to do in a long time: Domination was acting up and its backlog of simulation tasks was growing. We learned later that the server hosting the world might have had some hardware issues as well (when the hosting provider switched it out), but the machine was simply not big enough to handle the load, so we upgraded to a larger box.

I then sat down to collect my thoughts on how we might be able to implement the Distribution System in current-generation AirlineSim. The resulting post is visible to anyone, so feel free to weigh in if you think I missed something.

Later this week I spent a few hours on wrapping up another small maintenance patch, namely version 6.10.5. It’s mostly bugfixes and one more small enhancement for the flight planning UI. For the moment, I think I’ll stop fiddling with the latter and switch my focus over to bigger things again (see the DS implementation discussion above).

Last but not least, we’ve been experiencing some major issues with our mailing system. I rewrote the whole thing a while back and it’s generally been working nicely. But there was some obscure bug that under some unknown circumstances would cause a deadlock of the whole system, rendering email transmission and mailing list management unavailable. So I sat down and tried to figure out the issue. I think I found and fixed it. At least it’s been stable for the past 3 or 4 days. But we’ll keep an eye on it.
