Maintenance issues

I remember reading somewhere that if your maintenance ratio is above 100% you will have no problems in regards to aircraft condition falling below 50% and flights becoming cancelled.

However, my aircraft with 112% maintenance ratio is regularly falling below 50%. What do I need to do to stop this happening?

Another aircraft, of the same type, has a 102.5% MR and never falls below 50% condition. Amethyst Engineering if that makes a difference.

It depends on your flight schedule - if your aircraft has to fly for a long time without maintenance gaps in between, the condition can drop below 50% even with your maintenance ratio above 100%.

You should have at least one mx window per day of at least 3 hour duration.

Hi rubio, quick question... I remember reading somewhere here on the forum that the min duration was 2 hrs. Is that right? Right now I have scheduled gaps of 2hrs (2hrs+1min)but the prob is some flights undergo maintenance and some don't. I act think most don't, so you must be right :) Please clarify! 2hrs? 2.5? or 3? Any ideas on how its calculated?

Thanks!

The maintenance window must be more than 2 hours long, you are absolutely right on that. If you can see the blue background on the scheduling page, it's a maintenance window - if there's a grey overlay, time is too short and no maintenance will be done.

The Maintenance condition of an aircraft will only be updated, once the next flight starts. If you look at your bank account, you'll also see that maintenance was done (it's paid immediately and if you don't have enough cash, no maintenance is done) and how many "points" the maintenance included.

What Spezialist said. 3 hours is roughly the minimum time you need to keep 100%+ MR with a single daily maintenance break. You can achieve the same with 2x 2 hour mainteannce windows. Also note that takeoffs/landings affect MR of the aircraft so it's not the same to fly 4x 5 hour flights (including turnarounds) than 2x10 hour flights (including turnarounds). The more takeoffs and landings you have per day, the more aircarft conditions detoriates and then the more maintenance time it needs.

Woah!! Merci beaucoup!! I've been doing it wrong all along!! I've been scheduling only 1x2 hr windows for all my fleet and I never paid attention to the blue and grey windows in-between my schedules (I thought it was an airlinesim color anomaly).

Can you give more info on this? As in how do I know when to have a 2x2 window or just one window is good? Is there a way to calculate the number of scheduled flights I need to have before having a maintenance window? I know it depends on the acf condition and MR, but my MR falls below 100% only when I've scheduled 8 flights. But doesn't the acf condition deteriorate irrespective of a 100% MR? Most of my flights are 2-2.5 hr flights (one way) and I try to give one maintenance window (till date 1x2hr window) after 4 or 5 such scheduled flights, and that brought my acf condition down to abt 55%. Also, a 2x2 hr window will still give me a grey window in my schedule, I'll have 2 grey 2 hr windows...

I want to than you all in advance, this forum has been a great help to me. I just started airlinesim as a pass-time, as a one month player mostly cause I could never be completely profitable. But then once I went through the forums and understood the game, it grew on me and now I'm on it everyday for the past 2-3 months.

Always go for 2h+1min to be on the safe side for a working maintenance window.

How much time exactly you need for maintenance per day is hard to say, as it depends on the aircraft. the number and lenght of operated flights and your chosen maintenance provider.

You could simply do some testing to find out how much time is needed for a 100% maintenance ratio and note your personal results.

6 flights per day: 3h 16min maintenance

8 flights per day: 4h 58min maintenance

10 flights per day: 6h 10min maintenance

(these are just random numbers as an example)

It's not absolutely accurate, because turnaround times can be different, but this systems gets you close enough for planning.

And maybe I can just give you two screenshots to show you how it can work with maintenance windows on a daily or irregular schedule:
