Premium Economy Option

Many airlines today are offering different forms of Premium Economy, an upgraded economy experience with more pitch, seat width, and amenities. My suggestion is to have premium economy (Y+) as an additional class that can be set up in an upcoming version of AS.

Any thoughts?

You will find the discussions about this several times in the forum. It will come one day...

To offer a PY cabin would also necessitate the revamp of the demand calculations so that we could offer substandard service/slimline HD seating/no legroom in the regular Y section because passengers are looking for the absolute lowest price for their ticket. As it currently stands, in-game passengers do pay for the better seats/service in the game which negates the need to offer a premium Y cabin.

My airlines offer premium Y product only in economy cabin (in addition to premium "BusinessFirst" C product in business cabin). No need to implement it, as it already is implemented.

Completely disagreed. A premium Eco would mean, that you can add a 4. Seattype into the plane and a 4. Price categorie which is between eco and business.

How "luxury" your eco is, is another topic...

It has not been implemented.  A true premuim economy is a 4th class of service.  Some airlines use it for just extra leg room with the same style of seats.  Some have bigger seats and better service, like free alcohol.

I think this is a good idea but as in real world only viable for the longer routes and bigger a/c....

Transaero has a 4 class 737...

Enjoy: http://thedesignair.net/2013/10/30/transaero-launch-spectacular-737-cabin/

Imperial Class is long-haul first. Moscow to Tel Aviv, lots of very, very rich expats/consultants/etc.

JetBlue's mint is also very very nice, while not on a 737, it's on an A321

so AA had to respond, and they also introduced quite nice A321 Transcon first class

and also lie flat seats business class on the same plane

it's good to have another option, but you need to realize that usually there are only three or less classes on one plane. Air France is the only airline i know actually has a four classes cabin. I don't think you will ever have those many passengers to fill in economy comfort, business, and first class at the same time.

in fact it's hard to describe economy comfort. i book those seats several times and i can only feel the difference when i am taking a really long flight, like those pacific flights over ten hours. Other than that, i think there is nothing different for your flight. it will be a problem for AS to determine which flights should have economy comfort passengers.

In addition to Transaero, Lufthansa (brand new), Turkish (not clear if staying), Singapore, Cathay Pacific, Air China, Air France, United*** have it in a 4-class config.

ANZ, Aeroflot, EVA, China Airlines (Taiwan), and Delta*/United** have it on 3-class config.

I belive ANA will have it as well.

*International only, sort-of

**Rumor is United's rumored 777-300ER will feature a real Y+!!!!

***Extra leg room only

It goes back to your point. Y+ and "Y+" are two very different things. I see real Y+ to be the following (at minimum):

1 less seat per row* than Y- (*unless it is 10-abreast 777, then 8 abreast Y+)

30-45 degree recline

Enhanced IPTV compared to Y-

Free mid-shelf alcoholic beverages in unlimited quantities (skyy vodka, dewers scotch, jack daniels whiskey, heineken-like beer that mid-shelf for americans)

Semi-edible food

~33% more expensive than a W-fare equivalent Y-

Snack service like the sundae or nuts service on United

You know "Y-" is only so far implemented by Delta, they have F/J, Y+, Y, and Y-.

"Y-" on Delta is basically Spirit-Air like portion of Y cabin, where they don't even give you water.

So far I only used Y+ on Condor (763):

- More legroom (36 inches), but no fewer seats per row

- Slightly more recline (maybe 1-2 inches more )

- Better food (yeah it was visibly more edible and bigger than regular food in Y)

- Metal cutlery (yes you get real fork and knife in Y+)

- Alcoholic drinks ... but only with dinner (I would have loved open bar). I don't know if they offer spirits in regular Y or just wine.

- Bottle of water... actually it was 3 during the whole flight

- More baggage allowance

- Advanced seat selection (fees apply in regular Y)

- Better chance of having mid-section of 3 seats just for oneself if traveling with a companion, so there is a chance to get some sleep by laying down on the 3 seats (by preselecting both aisle seats with the middle seat empty, basically betting on the fact nobody in his right mind would preselect a middle seat, and worst case scenario it's possible to switch seats any time). Regular Y, computer assigns seats and also fuller cabin than Y+, more chance of middle seats filling up.

- No in-seat IFE on some Condor flights as some planes are wet leased from Thomas Cook UK. But I always use my personal IFE consisting of smartphone + tablet + laptop + spare batteries + 2x battery banks.

It’s a semantic thing, but the American carriers are very careful not to refer to their product as Premium Economy. It’s always some variation of Economy Plus, Economy Extra, and the like.

What do you think is the reason behind it?

So they don’t get sued for false advertising. Extra legroom isn’t a premium benefit, it’s the equivalent of a bulkhead seat while still having floor storage during takeoff and landing.

OK, it's been some time since I flew domestically USA on USA carrier. But if they do offer more services, such as free domestic checked bags, and maybe a small snack or sandwich, they can already call it premium economy.

I would pay for it...if it were *A so I can get my sweet sweet miles :)

Delta economy comfort is not bad on the pacific flights, although there are no extra meal and real cutlery. It is still worth adding some money to get a lot of miles and more room for sleep. i can't use business class quality to measure economy comfort.

Adding economy comfort maybe make the game more unrealistic based on recently ingame business class.  i hope i will buy a business class ticket with a bed on flight even at a very high price, but that's not going to happen in the real life. I will still choose economy or economy comfort. i will take the business class ticket if they don't ask me to pay more money. :D  This brings up a new topic: the recent game system does not allow overbook tickets even when the aircraft is not full. Maybe we can overbook economy class by taking some passengers in business class if the business class is not fully booked before the take-off. Also, if economy comfort is going to be added ingame, i hope the system takes some business passengers to economy comfort class (like fill in economy comfort before business when the services in business class and economy comfort class do not have too much difference)

You must be short.   I upgrade to economy plus on just about every trip I take out of Chicago.  I am just over 6 feet tall, and I can tell and feel the difference on even a short flight to MCO.

yeah. i am not over 6 feet. Economy still works for me. i feel pretty fine to fly coast to coast with economy class.
