Starting Aircraft

I am running a regional airline in Brazil on Gatow.

And I don't know which aircraft to lease, here are a few I don't know how to pick:

Airbus A319-100

Embraer 195

Bomardier Dash8 Q400A's

Any ideas?

Hello,

it really depends on your visions and your plans of the anticipated network. What are your plans? You are running an airline and this means that you have a strategy. Aircraft X works for airline X and aircraft Y works for airline Y.

I was thinking of flying only in Latin and South America. I have the idea of having only economy seating, but consider it more like a "luxurious jet"

This regions require aircraft with enough range IMO to cover the destinations. So you would like to offer an Economy Class with higher seat-pitch and service?

Yes, but I need some pointers. Do you think I could start off with some international flights from Brasilia? Buenos Aires is not that far and I could try to Santiago De Chile?

I would recommend having interlining agreements with airliners located in those airports.

Transfer passengers and flight ratings are the real keys to having a successful airline. They go hand-in-hand. You want passengers, and you want passengers to stay with your airline and buy as many tickets (transfers) as possible. I'm completely unfamiliar with South American airports, but it is always good to have flights running north-south and east-west through your hub to other destinations.

I never established an airline in that country. As a result I have no experience. It is in general "OK" (and in many cases very important!) to connect their own hub with important cities in neighbouring countries. In a country as big as Brazil, I would start to connect domestic cities with your hub. This would be my priority. This network would increase the chance to operate international flights successfully vice versa.

One of the most important aspects is the establishment of a functioning hub. Member "caithes" wrote important factors. A growing hub also enables you to expand into new markets (like international services). It is also a safer way to refrain from long haul services at the beginning.

I've come up with a plan, i think it is a good one:

I'll run flights from Salvador to Brasilia, with an EMB-195. It's a good aircraft, cheap, and it can reach the destinations I have in mind.

Good luck!
