I'm going through my fleet and upgrading aircraft from E140 to Embraer 175s.....The first time I did this, I had the new aircraft, transferred the flight plan to it and then 'returned' the old aircraft to the Lessor. Why does the sim not allow an equipment swap, but instead forces me to wait 3 days for it to start flying the existing routes? There are obviously more seats on the new plane, so it should have been able to map over easily. In real life there are up and down gages on aircraft all the time. Does the sim not have the capacity to recognized that? Thanks!
As far as I can tell, It’s because of the way that demand calculation is done. It’s never really bothered me, but I definitely get your point, as equipment subs do happen regularly.
The calculation can never be transferred only the chance of future calculations can be transferred.
Well, the system works on 3-day delay, because else you could make changes to flights that are already booked into ORS and that would cause very heavy system burden. Remember that the ORS booking system includes price, aircraft , and other information for the flight. It would be very system resource have if you had to recalculate ORS flight and all the subsequent connections which the give flight is part of.

Just came across your post, since I am upgrading my fleet to, and have the same issue.
What is the best practice to have a good transition between the old and the new a/c without blank day ?
1. If you don't want to have any missing flights, make sure the leaving aircraft is still available for 72h to operate all remaining flights.
2. If you want to avoid hiring additional flight attendants, remove the configuration on the leaving aircraft before you install it on your new aircraft
3. Transfer the flight plan to your new aircraft. All new flights (beyond 72h) will be booked on this one. Done!
Just a suggestion when you swap between smaller 737s, 737s without winglets or with scimitar to 737-900ERs or 737s with winglets or the otherway around. Remember to ALWAYS cross "Maintain speed of source aircraft as override:", this will burn a bit more fuel but you will not need to reschedule anything or touch anything and it is a lot easier when the slots are tight.
