Can anyone explain to me what these are and how I can maximise their utilisation? Or atleast point me to a thread that explains them?
A wave is a set of departures generally at the same time. The aircraft stay at the hub airport for minimum transfer time and then go off and come back at the same time and go out after min transfer time. And so on.
Best to have 3/4 equal waves and go east west east west to get most connections.
BTW if the min transfer time is 1 hour get in at xx59 no later and depart at zz00 at earliest. Passengers connect during hour of yy.
How do you take into account flights with varying times? Does it matter if aircraft are waiting more than one hour to depart?
Personally for short haul I use a wave every 4 hours (see attached picture). I have departure waves at 0000,0400,0800,1200,1600,2000 and arrival waves one hour before. Minimum connection time at this airport is 45 mins.
Hopefully you can see how different flight times are dealt with..
so presumably your maintenance ratio is > 200%?
All under 200 however you have to remember with a effective wave strategy you will have a lot of white space = space not long enough for maintenance but larger than the minimum required turnaround
So do all your waves originated from your hub? Or just every flight leaves after an hour?
From your hub.
As said there is a wave every 4 hours from my hug
Thanks guys :)
